A forum for Thai, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos news and views
A forum for Thai, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos news and views
It's time to create a new forum for news, views, stories and debate about Cambodia's immediate neighbours, Thailand, Vietnam, Lao PDR and Myanmar (the not literally across the border, but WTF). Khmer440 has numerous threads on these countries already, and we've decided to separate them into their own section. We also have quite a few members who live across the border. I've moved most of the relevant threads of the last year or so into here already; the mods will work their way through the Not Cambodia section to move across more over the next week or so.

A lot of threads are on cross-border issues, such as asking about relocating from Thailand to Cambodia, or comparing Cambodia with Vietnam. Which forum do these discussions fall into?
I came, I argued, I'm out
I don't think we need to be too prescriptive about that andy. If they fall into Speakeasy or Q&A, we might provide transfer them with a link, but let's see how it pans out. The main reason to have this is that the Not Cambodia thread is too vague and I think this part of the world is worthy of a section to itself.

now all we need is the LIKE button
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
Definitely on the radar. Give me time, Phuket2006. If I could work out how to do one, you'd have one now. There are a few module add-ins to phpbb that allow a like function, but I need a techie to sort it for me in case I end up deleting 440 from history by accidentPhuket2006 wrote:now all we need is the LIKE button

Sounds like a good idea. Teak Door follows that model a bit, but it's still primarily Thai-centric.

There's a rival forum a bit closer to home that has all these sub-forums too. I trust not ALL of them will be sequestered once it dies.wackyjacky wrote:Sounds like a good idea. Teak Door follows that model a bit, but it's still primarily Thai-centric.

Thai visa wont die ( not in our lives) and only offers sections for Burma an Cambodia, and ceo doesn't offer this breakdown.( only Thailand an rest of world)
Teak door breaks it down by country (but not much traffic) an the best for bikers ( gt riders) does as well
I think this is great idea!!!!

Fair enough idea, but Thailand and Vietnam would probably be enough, Myanamars too distant and Laos is too small. Maybe have a section dealing with just nearby neighbors (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malayasia, Philippines, China etc ) besides the rest of the world? Please don't allow Singapore. Indonesia, Brunei or PNG in, those places are outside our sphere.

trying to keep this section going it seems like an uphill battle, all u all that reside in Cambodia are not really concerned with what goes on over here in the "land of Happiness" or Laos, Myanmar, (don't any of you travel at all?)
trust me, tourism down here, tourism down there as well.
Think of all the border runners that will not be paying 1,000 baht for a Cambodian visa for one.
There's so much to see an do in SE Asia and the landscape is changing and when ( IF) Asean comes into effect........

I think it is interesting to discuss Thai politics here since there are so many constraints there. However, I restrict it to only the most interesting topics as if we ever DID get some interesting and active debate going I'm quite sure I'd be seeing the MCOT slogan now instead of K440 and don't wish to lose access to this site (although it would likely increase my productivity greatly). Similarly, I have no real interest in talking about Laos, as that's a one-way trip to PNG status (persona non grata, not Papua New Guinea although both are possible at the same time).Phuket2006 wrote:trying to keep this section going it seems like an uphill battle, all u all that reside in Cambodia are not really concerned with what goes on over here in the "land of Happiness" or Laos, Myanmar, (don't any of you travel at all?)
