The male DNA on the murder weapon doesn't belong to either of the accused.

http://thailandjustice.com/verdict-on-k ... -december/Verdict on Koh Tao murder trial to be delivered on 24 December
Htoo Chit , (Htoo Chit, the founder and executive director of the Foundation for Education and Development (FED) and a member of the Myanmar Special Investigation Committee) ,said the case is very important because the situation of millions of Myanmar migrant workers is also related. So, the Myanmar government should use various ways including diplomacy in order that the two Myanmar workers be released.
He said he does not think the two Myanmar workers will be punished. If they are sentenced, he will use various ways to achieve fairness for them.
Reports allege that the two accused were tortured during the interrogation process, but Thai authorities have denied the allegations.

Koh Tao: Suspects found guilty of murdering British backpackers
http://www.khaosodenglish.com/detail.ph ... 1450872256SAMUI - The court today found two Myanmar workers guilty of killing two British backpackers in southern Thailand more than a year ago.
The court on Samui island this morning ruled that there is sufficient evidence to implicate the two defendants, Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, in the double murder of British nationals David Miller and Hannah Witheridge in September 2014. The case which has since attracted intense media coverage and public scrutiny.
Miller, 24, and Witheridge, 23, were found dead on Sai Ree Beach on Koh Tao in the early morning of Sep. 15, 2014. Two weeks after the murders, Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo were arrested and identified as the killers. The pair is also accused of raping Witheridge.
Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo have been held at a prison on Samui island since their arrests.

Regardless of whether the whole case was bungled from start to finish and the DNA evidence was lost etc, do you think the 2 Burmese guys actually committed the murders?
Part of me hopes that Thailand isn't really that fucked up corruption wise, and in danger of completely disappearing up it's own arse as far as the importance of the national image go's.

Of course not. The guy who did it was obvious from the start - the Village Headman's son who was somehow exonerated with some BS grainy video "showing" him to be in Bangkok at the time so no need to investigate (not that it was released so anyone could test it)! Besides, as stated explicitly right from the start by the authorities "A Thai could not have done this." Hence no need to investigate any Thai. Especially any well-connected Thai.spitthedog wrote:Regardless of whether the whole case was bungled from start to finish and the DNA evidence was lost etc, do you think the 2 Burmese guys actually committed the murders?

This is among the more disgraceful things I've seen from there, and it's not a surprise. Anyone who thought this current mob would be any different from the usual suspects knows very little about how that country works.

According to Twitter, several Thai police websites include ictgeneral.police.go.th and pcscenter.sb.police.go.th have been hacked and brought down by Myanmar hackers because of the death sentences handed down to the two guys last week.
Yeah that'll teach them!
I hope the powers-that-be are thinking about what could happen if they do something really bad!

She said Thai judges and court officials made a string of heartless comments to her devastated parents during the recent trial of two Burmese migrants accused of her murder.
They included: "Why are you here? Why do you care? She is dead already" and: "Why are you so bothered? Just go home and make another one" and: "Why are you making such a fuss, she will be back in 30 days as something else, she may have better luck next time."

Regarding the "yellow journalism", I wonder if you are on to something. Laura Witheridge's full, lengthy post just appeared on my timeline. Nowhere does she make the above claims. She did call the cops corrupt but the Sun story makes it look like she had more to say in the post but she doesn't. Of course, the post is no less affecting and critical of the RTP.Phuket2006 wrote:unreal;
