Photo essay; Yangon to Kwathoung Myanmar
Flew into Yangon (Rangon) and spent a few days exploring the city and taking in the Shwedagon & Sule Paya's (pagodas) in town, the local markets, Bogyoke market and China town before heading south
Yangon -Kyaithkya (Golden Rock)
3 hours bus ride and than a Fantastic 45 minute ride in an open top truck to the top to view the Golden rock. A site not to be missed and one of the holiest spots for Burmese in all of Myanmar, the ride to the top was worth the trip.
Kyaithkya- Hpa-an;
Was told to be in front of the hotel at 10 am for the bus to pick me up, BUT as usual, the hotel got it wrong and ended up taking a 30 minute ride on the back of a motorcycle to the next town to catch the Local bus to Hpa-An. Rented a motorcycle and headed out into the countryside to visit the local caves and a small Pagoda built in the center of a lake. Amazing
Mawlamyine-Ye;
6 hour train ride thru the countryside, really nice small town stayed at the American run ( with his Burmese wife) Starlight gh sitting above the lake.. Ye gets very few tourists as most by pass it in their hurry to get to Dawei, but it is worth the nights stop. Funny thou as his gh was 32,000 kyat for an air con room. More than the average I have paid elsewhere
Ye- Dawei;
5 hours on a local bus thru the mountains over some pretty tough roads. Great early morning seafood market on the river and some very friendly vendors. Rented a bike and headed to the beaches. Maung-magan is the closest beach, about 20 kms from town, but than headed north further thru small villages on dirt roads for another hour and arriving at Nabule, miles and miles of white sand beach, crystal clear water and not a bungalow, restaurant or person in sight. Absolutely beautiful and I imagine what the beaches in Thailand looked like 50 + years ago.
Dawei- Myeik;
Left my hotel at 12:30 AM to the tour office where we took a bus an hour to the pier where the fast Air con boat left at 3:30 am. Arrived 5 hours later and the Hotel Grand Jade allowed me to check in at 9:30am
From Myeik the next day, it was a 7 hour boat ride south to Kwathoung on the Andaman sea, passing hundreds of small uninhabited islands & fishing villages.
Than a 30 minute longtail ride to Ranong and back in Thailand and 6 hours more back to Phuket
Info;
I got my pre-approved visa online for $50 , quick and easy and flew one way into Myanmar.
Air asia has 4-5 flights /day into Yangon and one daily into Mandalay
Hotels ranged from 14,000 kyat (the kyat was 1,290 to the $) to $50 (A fantastic hotel in Myeik ) with most averaging between 18-24,000 kyat ($14-18.50) not overly expensive but not the value of Thailand or Cambodia.
Travel was fine and never had a bad experience and the train is a treat. Just to sit with all the locals and we were all bouncing up and down and swaying form side to side,
For me, I really enjoy traveling in Myanmar, the people are incredible friendly (even more so than Khmers) an its genuine, never had anyone try to rip me off or sell me anything at Farang prices
The express fast boats Farangs do pay more, but that’s the government.
Sims are easy to buy and internet by smart phone, was available 90% of the places I have been an often faster than the wifi at the hotels and cheap as well
So if you can spare the time, get over before it’s all spoiled. I am heading back end of Feb and do the Chindwin River this time

Beautiful photos, Richard! Myanmar, along with Mongolia, is a country I need to take time to visit properly.

Excellent stuff as usual.
Those beaches are incredible - will have to get down there sometime this year.
Couldn't believe how devout the Burmese are - observing the reverence for Buddha at Shewadegon, even among 20-somethings, was quite eye opening.

Nice pics. I've only been to Yangon and wasn't exactly taken with it. It would be nice to see the rest of the country before it gets too developed, although I reckon that is a couple of decades away yet.

You can count on research paper assignments every semester – probably several of them. Some topics may interest you, such as those in your major field of study. Others, however, are pure drudgery, because topics are distasteful or boring, and you would certainly rather spend your time on other things. And let’s face it – research papers are long-term complex works that require several different skills. If you are overwhelmed or bored with such assignments, you can certainly buy research paper online from any number of sources – thousands of them, to be more accurate! https://rocketpaper.net/research-paper-for-students
