...I believe there are three international border crossings from Thailand to Malaysia and according to the reviews on google maps they all seem awful, perhaps that is going from Malaysia to Thailand. Does anyone on here have any experience on crossing into Malaysia? Is one crossing better than the others or worse for whatever reasons? I noticed that the most easterly crossing involves a bridge and when I tried to cross from Thailand to Savannakhet, Laos , over the friendship bridge, the Thai fuckers wouldn't let me cross on my bicycle and made me pay 35 dollars for a pick up truck to carry me less than 2k! Any similar nonsense or stupid corruption involved?
Cheers for any useful info.

I would agree, never had any problems with the Malay borders (from Singapore or Thailand). Did get told off for bringing in an apple though.sociopath wrote:in short no shit going into malaysia. dont carry too much malasian currencey or some types of veggies and you will be fine
one other thing while you can carry a bike on thai trains, the high speed malaysian trains wont let them on so if you must carry one of those big plastic zip up bags and put it inside dismantled so they cant see it.
oh and those high speed malaysian trains are absolutely wonderful. not expensive either
and they absolutely are going to search or scan your bags when crossing the border

When i biked in Malaysia i seem to remember i crossed over into Thailand on the train with my bike at the Padang Besar crossing no probs. This was years ago , mind so not sure what the score is now. Bit nervous about my bike out of sight back in the cargo carriage but all went well. No booze allowed/sold on the trains now though in LOS. Thailand is getting so sensible these days.

Look into crossing to Langkawi from the Thai island of Ko Lipe. I'm certain they have a border crossing between the two. That would be cool if you can do it.
Ko Lipe in Taratao National Marine was one of the most stunning untouched islands i've been to. When i went you could share a beach bungalow with other people no problem or rent a tent.

crossing either way is a piece of cake, been thru 4 of the 7, Betong is the most scenic, (the ride down from Yala is great and than onwards into Malaysia) and Khota Bharu on the east coast is very nice,
Also the west coast crossing at Satun ( Wang Prachan) goes thru some really scenic areas.
avoid the busy Sadao crossing, especailly on the weekends
You could also travel by boat from Satun pier to Langkawi
