A search is underway to rescue 12 teenage soccer players and their coach who are thought to be trapped in a cave in northern Thailand.
Investigators believe the group, who have been missing since Saturday, crawled into the Tham Luang Nang Non Cave through a narrow 15-meter long channel.
Rising waters then blocked the path, which is about as wide as a single person, leaving the group stuck inside the cave network, Kamolchai Kotcha, an official with Thailand's national parks authority, told CNN.
"We have been working almost 24 hours but there are many limitations, the caves are pitch dark and very low level of oxygen in some areas, and scattering rains just made our task more difficult," said Kotcha.

Teenage soccer team feared trapped in Thai cave
It's easy for a man to get trapped by a Thai cave. Especially in Pattaya.

Agreed, McPhisto's comment was uncalled for. Unless he is 12 years old.RainMan wrote:FFS, this may end badly, praying for a good outcome.

Boys found alive and well, although still stuck inside with exits tunnels full of water. They need to get them out before the next rain falls.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/02/asia/tha ... index.htmlChiang Rai, Thailand (CNN)Rescue teams have found all 12 boys and their soccer coach alive in a cave in Thailand nine days after the group went missing, according to a high-ranking person involved in the search and rescue operation.
The boys, who range in ages from 11 to 16 years old and are all members of the Wild Boar soccer team, entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system on Saturday, June 23, for a team outing, but became stranded in the dark tunnels by a sudden and continuous downpour.
The international rescue operation -- which includes the Thai Navy SEALs as well as experts from the US, China, Australia and the UK -- had been working to reach a large, deep chamber, informally named Pattaya Beach, where they believed the missing boys had taken refuge.

It’s an incredible story, but not over yet. They still have to figure out a way to get them out. I think it could be some days more before they’re out, as first priority is to now get them food and supplies.

Food and supplies will get there, and may already be there.
Getting them out, and out while the water is low, is the bigger challenge.

Looks like they'll be in there for months. They're working on drilling into the caves to help drain the water, but it is rainy season so of course that poses a challenge. A few articles said they will need to learn to dive, but other articles said that not only do the boys not know how to swim, but it is incredibly difficult and very few people in the word have the ability to complete the dive as it currently stands.
The governor of the region is taking all of the credit of course, which reminds me a bit of the Chile cave rescue. God forbid just saying "thank you UK, U.S., and others for providing the expertise and people to carry this out successfully".
Instead, he says: “We called this mission impossible because it rained every day... but with our determination and equipment we fought nature,” Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn said Tuesday.
Yea... go Chiang Rai people and equipment!

What was the coach thinking taking a bunch of kids...wearing flip flops (found outside)... who cannot swim....into a pitch black cave...that is known to be dangerous....during the rainy season?

Fantastic news that they're alive! Looks like they'll have to be fed and cared for until the water can be pumped out, but at least they've now got hope to keep them going. Well done, rescue teams!

Someone needs to get a messege in a bottle to the 25yr old Coach. Do not say a word about this to anyone.springrain wrote:Fantastic news that they're alive!
