As far as I can work out both Mizoram and Manipur are restricted areas and you need special permits and have to travel in a group:

If that border is open and relatively hassle free then my next year n half has totally changed. Gonna have to do some research the one thing I hate doing and am useless at. Go as you please is my preferred way.

https://indianexpress.com/article/india ... abolished/Wednesday’s event not only opened land border point at Tamu-Moreh (India) but also Rikhawadar (Chin state) and Zowkhawthar (Mizoram).
The Consul General of India further said, “People from both the countries as well as third country, holding a valid passport and visa/e-visa can cross the land border. People can travel within the entire country and also can stay for the duration as specified in visa.”
Earlier, Indians travelling to Myanmar had to hire a licensed guide costing about 60 dollars a day in addition to the special land route permit from the authority.

That's about as concrete confirmation as I need.
New plan. Still cycle back up through Malaysia and cross into Thailand at Betong, explore the muslim south and head to BKK to get a cheap air return to Bangalore , explore South India before returning to BKK and cycling through Burma and into India for a five month explore of the North.
Sweet.

sounds to be like the airlines got wind of it long back and were trying to put a stop to it, that what all that rohingy nonsense was all about not long back, they have blocked this border since adam and eve as with other critical places around the globe

yep;
India/Burma OPEN:
There are two open borders connecting India and Myanmar: Moreh (India, Manipur state) and Tamu (Myanmar, Sagaing Division) and Zokhawthar (Inda, Mizoram state) and Rikhawdar (Myanmar, Chin State). Foreigners can cross these borders with simply passport and valid visa. Travel in these border regions is also unrestricted.

perhaps you can give us the path from northern thailand or laos.
last i checked china to myanmar wasnt open to barang
if it was that would be my preference laos china myanmar then need directions from china border to indian border
some places in myanmar are still no go areas as far as i am aware
need to get all the visas in vientiane?
never been to india despite asking at indian consulates in quite a number of places for a visa, i just walk out rather than put up with the shit they dish,out, all the same, so that would be the first on the list to see how it goes. plus i think india is only for a certain category of person of which i am not one.
