An observation about dining in Myanmar
Fuck these people are even worse than Cambodians when it comes to handing you the menu and then standing 12 inches away until you order. Also, handing you the check and standing 12 inches away until you give them the money.

They probably thought you looked shifty and were likely to do a runner on them.gavinmac wrote:Fuck these people are even worse than Cambodians when it comes to handing you the menu and then standing 12 inches away until you order. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Nope. they must have noticed you had a Cambodian girlfriend (easy to spot, they are the only Asians who don't eat the local rice) and wanted to make her feel like at home.gavinmac wrote:Fuck these people are even worse than Cambodians when it comes to handing you the menu and then standing 12 inches away until you order. Oh do fuck off you pretentious twat.Miguelito wrote:If you find yourself in Yangon i highly recommend the happy hour at The Strand. It reminds me of the Elephant Bar, except with free snacks, fun guests, and reasonably priced cocktails.

I found The Strand very unimpressive as a building. There are so many huge colonial buildings there yet the Strand and it’s bars seemed very small to me.

No, a pretentious thing would be to tell you to go to the Strand for their delicious breakfast and get the Soft Boiled Egg Cardinal Style (Artichoke, Truffle and Lobster Medallion), although at only $12 it’s well worth it and a good value, so I don’t actually think that’s pretentious either.
I don’t think suggesting a $3.50 cocktail (I think most were $7, so half off at happy hour is $3.50) with some free passed out snacks is pretentious. I was expecting Raffles prices, which are just insane really, and was presently surprised. But, haters gonna hate.

You could try the english style - "Can you give us a few minutes", before ordering?gavinmac wrote:Fuck these people are even worse than Cambodians when it comes to handing you the menu and then standing 12 inches away until you order. My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

I’m at the 50th Street Bar and Grill now. What happened to the big picture or painting of the FCC Phnom Penh they used to have on the wall?
