Tet holiday
I may need to head to Saigon for a meeting, but I know that the Tet holiday closes businesses for 1-2 weeks. When will they start closing up shop, this upcoming weekend, or sooner? Will businesses be open the week of 11 Feb?

This depends a lot on what sort of business. Government offices, banks, etc. will be closed all of next week but should be open again on the 11th. The days of 2-week shut-downs are long gone.

Cool, thanks. Yea, I hear "everything is closed for two weeks) but wasn't sure which two weeks. So pretty much, next week is written off.Hanno wrote:This depends a lot on what sort of business. My Cambodian maid was praying with incense by the spirit house when I left this morning, for the 1-week before the new year prayer to the ancestors. So I guess it's kind of starting now.

In Vietnam, preparations have been going on for weeks. However, the official holiday is from the 4th to the 8th (Monday to Friday). A lot of private businesses will just close for the first and second day though, there is money to be made. Tet has changed a lot since I first came to Vietnam. Many Vietnamese now take the holiday to travel and are no longer interested in spending an entire week with parents and relatives (something I can fully understand).
