Will the US dollar eventually weaken?
USD has been falling against some currencies for a while now. It's fallen from 4.4 Malaysian ringgit three months ago to under 3.90 today.
I have some funds in New Zealand. Three months ago one usd bought I.57 kiwi. Today it buys only 1.42.

So what is the latest prediction for the imminent fate of the Greenback?
That was the case when the US imported the vast majority of their oil. Its 60℅ less than it was in say 2008.fredfuchs wrote:USD will weaken when oil prices go back up, as they are starting to now.
I'm more inclined to look at gold prices as a measure.
Edit. Just checked and gold prices is down and USD is also down!
pew, pew, pew, pew!
We're both correct in the same way. Commodities priced in USD (oil) move opposite to the strength of USD because of being priced in USD. Investment banks, most notably JP Morgan, use their massive leverage to short silver and precious metals in order to keep their fiat currency much more valuable than it's actually worth.YaTingPom wrote:That was the case when the US imported the vast majority of their oil. That doesn't seem to have happened. Oil prices have been on the rise for the last couple of months but the dollar seems to have retained its strength against most major currencies as well as most of those Asian currencies we are interested in - baht, ringgit, peso etc.fredfuchs wrote:USD will weaken when oil prices go back up, as they are starting to now.
Famous last words, eh? Especially the 2nd part, which I saw being dealt instantly on the currency markets as soon as the swing became undeniable.scobienz wrote:[...] I don't see Brexit happening; even if it does there is no causal link between leaving the EU and the inevitable collapse of the GBP against the USD, which is the only cross-rate that matters for Brits living in Cambodia.Starving Pelican wrote:You really think that'll happen?ken svay wrote:Let's hope the poms dump the EU and the currency collapses. Saw the reports of voters who voted for 'leave' wishing they hadn't done so or they thought it wouldn't count!!

And this is supposed to be the educated Western world? People living in a fairy tale world following pied pipers will have rude awakenings. This is the beginning of the end of the UK - next exit & referendum: Scotland.
