That is downright strange. I have never heard of any bank refusing cash, unless it was a currency taking a nose dive. I guess you'll have to get some Mason jars to bury or put it in your mattress.

If you had a work permit you would be able to deposit money into a bank account. Do you have one?

Yes, banking in VN is a nightmare but like you said, you quit your job and can't prove that the money you are trying to deposit has been earned "legitimately" and you that paid tax on it.

It is true that now in Vietnam, it is harder to maintain a bank account. It is still possible but obviously they will ask for instance to prove that you are not receiving money in Vietnam (so you are not working there)
In this video, this is one of the best set-up if you are a long term tourist, an employee and even an entrepreneur.
Cheers

I personally don't trust Timo, especially in these worrying times, although, there are many that do. There office in HCM is apparently still open to register.
There are however several bitcoin ATMs around town.

I forget to mention the gold shops. Apparently, they are still open, but not sure if they are still selling gold and at what rates. I intend to have a look tomorrow or the next day.
As far as depositing cash and withdrawing from an ATM free of charge, probably worth putting some into Timo.

For international transfers, you can pretty much forget it. Western Union allowed you to transfer money in, but with the new anti laundering and terrorism rules I haven't checked lately
