Revolut App for Money transfer
Has anyone heard of this or is anyone using it at the moment?
It seems, on the face of it, to be pretty decent
I have transferred some money to it and and playing around with it at the minute.
It's offering me 1.45 GBP to USD. Best I can see (for low value) through banks is ~1.40 or worse (plus fees).
A ten minute set-up will give you a virtual card (which can be used for online transactions in a variety of currencies with no foreign currency charge). They will also post a physical card out to you.
So far it seems like a winner to me - only drawback I can see is that there is a restriction of $500 on Free ATM withdrawals (after $500 there is a 2% charge).
Any thoughts?

I looked at this company. The only issue I have is that it is really limited to residents of European countries. At least in order to get the card. But other than that it looks good. I mentioned this on the "question and answer" forum. Someone was asking about atm fees.
Trying to figure out how I can use it, but think I am out of luck as I do not reside in the listed countires.

Works great as long as your family in Europe can ship the card to you...

They wouldn't be allowed to operate if they didn't have encryption to bank level security.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
I was looking at this Revolut card again and would love to get one. I wonder if I could get a friend in Europe to order one, then ship it to me. But the card may then be associated to the person who ordered it.
Has anyone ordered the card? Any idea how it works? Does not really explain this point on their website. Thanks

I applied and had it sent to my mom in UK, then asked her to send it here. I have it linked to HSBC, etc...JJones wrote:I was looking at this Revolut card again and would love to get one. Thanks for your reply. Does the card how your name on it? I have a couple of friends in Europe, but not close friends. Guess I could ask them to do it perhaps but I would not want the card linked to them at all.
I just viewed a photo of the card online. Ones name is on the card. So this makes it tough for me to get and use one...

I've had a card for a few weeks now. So far the service seems pretty impressive.
I got it for travelling, not for use in Cambodia. Am travelling later this month so will be able to test it fully and will report back.
Only drawback I have identified so far is that you can't get a joint account. Accounts and cards are in sole names only.
It seems to be much cheaper than alternatives for getting cash and spending money when travelling.
I registered using my UK mailing address and a friends UK phone number. Someone muled the card to me & when I was fully registered I changed the phone number in the app to my local Khmer number (this was a little tricky but do-able).
The have an online chat support function which seems excellent.
Ability to change PIN through app, temporarily block card usage, and receive app notifications when card is used are all nifty features. You also don't actually need a physical card if all you want it for is online purchases. They give you a pic of the card in the app which can be used online - just not obviously for ATM withdrawals.

It does look pretty good overall and I'll get one myself. The main (small) drawback is the low withdrawal ceiling without charge namely £500 (and not $500) so about 600€/$650 per month, not per transaction. The cost would be 2% if you go over that limit, which is quite reasonable compared to other cards.

Yeah it is 2% but without foreign currency fees tacked on top.logos wrote:It does look pretty good overall and I'll get one myself. Still works out to be pretty reasonable.
Khmerhamster sorry to keep asking about this. I have a friend that I could have the card mailed to in Germany and I could use her phone number for any sms messaging if needed. If she applied she could just give my name. But I have no connection other than that to anywhere in Europe. Based on that could I get a card do you think? I have opened bank accounts in Europe before and they required a copy of the passport as well as something to show that you are connected to your address that you give on your applicaton. For example a power bill.
Would it be possible for me to get one? Thanks very much.
