GBP incomes
Is anyone here reliant on their income from the UK, either through online work or pension? I'd be interested to know how they are feeling regarding the current state of sterling.
Why do you need to ask, isn't it obvious?
I'd expect that the expat pensioners throughout the world are getting mighlity pissed off.
What, is it something like 25% less for their money now?
That's an awfully big drop. Don't forget that the headline price of "£1.29 lowest in a billion years" is not what the currency exchange rate for expats changing their money, usually through their bank. I looked online and Natwest (a big UK bank) exchange rate is $1.24!
(I don't receive a pension by the way. 25 years to wait!)

pew, pew, pew, pew!
I am early retired, 100% dependant on my GBP savings, and spend most of the year travelling the world.alanclarke72 wrote:Is anyone here reliant on their income from the UK, either through online work or pension? I'd be interested to know how they are feeling regarding the current state of sterling.
I am happy, ecstatic even, with the democratic decision of my country to leave the evil EU empire.
The UK government needs to get itself sorted out, get a strong leader, and work towards putting the "Great" back in Britain.
I have adjusted my spending slightly to cater for the 10% drop in GBP against USD over the past month, minimal impact for me to be honest.
Feeling good about it all.
No, that was "Project Fear".YaTingPom wrote:What, is it something like 25% less for their money now?

Sterling is now at $1.21 wholesale so that will mean the real conversion is well under 1.20. Sterling is now the weakest performing currency in the world. That's gonna hurt people relying on U.K. Income.

I'm trying my best not to be bitter...
I wanted to remain and now am hit with the consequences of a decision, not my own.
I did transfer significant money before the vote, but now am needing to transfer more very soon. It's not quite at the stage of having to adjust lifestyle - yet. However it is prudent to be more aware of finances than previous.
An NGO I am connected with is hit hard. They source most of their income from the UK and will be making adjustments. It will be interesting to see if there will be an noticeable change in NGO activity in Cambodia (although US or Oz NGO's will still be all guns blazing)

The UK papers are today reporting that some airport exchange booths are offering just 0.88 Euros to the pound for travelers heading across the ditch.
All pensioners here are worse off except the US ones as the $ has strengthened significantly against almost all currencies
3 yrs ago rough figures
GBP $1.55 now $1.23 Down 21%
AUS $1.05 now $0.76 Down 28%
EUR $1.35 now $1.10 Down 19%
Maybe all the ex-Thai sexpats will move back
GBP today 43.5Bt which is the same as its low point it hit in 2013 so some positive news
