Depends on the amount and the type of denominations.
Thailand often has a different rate for 1,5,10 / 20,50 & 100 notes
Cambodia just give the same rate for every bill
The rate in Cambodia is often better and every time I need to go to Thailand, I change USD at Ly Hour.

Why would I care? I'm Khmer

I always take baht to Cambodia and check the market money changers and banks. The banks have been very close and sometimes better than money changers.
However, Yenjit and Superrich in Thailand have pretty good rates too. As said above, the differences only matter on huge amounts.

Cheers.
Sorted before anyone replied, but in case anyone is wondering Cambodian currency exchange shops are slightly better.

I've used Ly Hour in Toul Kork to buy baht and dong, never to sell. https://www.everyday.com.kh/en/exchangerate.html Don't trust the rate quoted here. It will be different at the shop.SteveB wrote:if someone can recommend a specific location to exchange Thai bht to USD that would be great....i went to a few places on riverside and was quoted something 27 bht for 1 dollar.....

There are also 2 fairly good shops near central market, near the corner of 53 and 136.
In the past, there was always a big difference between the buy and sell rates for baht and dong here, so I just kept and used it when I went back.

Changed some dollars to baht this month at the closest Ly Hour. Rate was 34.3 and quite a long way off spot. But it was a better rate than all of the exchange booths in Bangkok were offering when I got there.JimSocks wrote:What about dollars to baht? Should i do it cambo or wait till i hit bangkok?

I bought $200 worth of baht at a shop near central market last Saturday at 34.44/$. It wasn't the best rate in town, but they did have 100 baht notes for the taxi from the airport (because they never "have" change), and we travelled on Sunday. Monday morning I changed a larger amount at Super Rich Silom for 34.66. Tuesday it was 34.60.walkjivefly wrote:Changed some dollars to baht this month at the closest Ly Hour. Have fun! So many middle-eastern/gulf-state and eastern-European travelers in BKK now! Sure makes travel much more interesting!
Oh, and the booths at the airport all had much worse rates (34.22?) than Cambodia.
Just use Ly Hour. I use the one by the front of the monstrosity building Olympus or whatever the hell it's called.
The rate at the market changer for HKD was costing me $5 loss. Ly Hour was much closer to the actual exchange rate. I always have my XE app open to verify.
