Yes, I've been using Revolut for a few months now.
I worked out that I saved about $15+ on a $250 withdrawal when I use Revolut card compared to my VISA card. The saving is due to better rates and absence of bank fees.

Yes, I think the savings using Revolut are substantial.
Btw, at first I tried to sign up with my Khmer tel # but got the message that it wasn't available here, yet. Then I remembered I still had a Dutch simcard laying around....

Dropped by Maybank earlier and made a withdrawal. It said on the screen that fees depended on what your own bank charges. Thanks to whoever it was suggested that.

I am not clear on this. You "started using Revolut recently". But you "Ordered the physical atm-card today". So how did you use it without the card? Did you use it to transfer money to an account at a local bank here? Can you explain this please. I looked into this company but one must be from Europe to get a card. I wonder how I can use it without a card. Thanks.Jaap wrote:I think you guys should look into using the Revolut money transfer app. Very user friendly, good exchange rates and (depending how much you use/withdraw) low fees. I started using it recently and I'm happy with it, so far. Ordered the physical atm-card today. Atm withdrawals are free up to $700 (or €650/£ 500) a month, after that a 2% fee applies. I used to take out $500 at Canadia, $5 fee and a (very) shitty exchange rate at my bank in The Netherlands....
It has been discussed on here before.

When I downloaded the app to my phone I first put money from my Dutch account onto it. Changed the €'s to US $'s (at a very decent exchange rate), and sent some money to an account in Cambodia, this takes 3 to 5 days. No fee for sending the money.JJones wrote:I am not clear on this. In the app there's a virtual card you can use to make online purchases etc., but you need a physical card to withdraw from atm's here in Cambodia, or any country in the world, so their website says.
Not sure if 'one must be from Europe to get a card', but that wasn't relevant for me. One needs an address to register and of course an address to have the card sent to. I guess this could be anywhere in the world.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much.
Think I might need to get myself one of those revolut cards, costs me a fortune at the moment with the shit exchange rate and the fees on top (I do mind about 'a few bucks' unlike some)
Also, not wholly related but why do all ATMs pay out $100 notes when it is so fucking hard to change them anywhere!

exactly. they will of course not reimburse what your own bank charges for international transfers. My bank (German DKB) does not charge anything so I am withdrawing there for free.Lucky Lucan wrote:Dropped by Maybank earlier and made a withdrawal. Someone mentioned having problems using his HSBC card at their main branch? I have used an ATM there last week and it was no problem at all.

They don't. Try getting an amount that isn't a round figure in the 100s. There are money changers everywhere.Tynan1234 wrote:

I have a tip that may only apply to US citizens/residents.
Next time you go back to the US, open a checking account with Schwab bank and get a debit card.
Schwab refunds all ATM fees at the end of the month. That usually amounts to $50 or so a month when I am traveling overseas.

If you don't know where you're going, any road takes you there.
