Old atm card looking a bit tattered so asked in bank about getting it replaced. Sure no problem sign the form and we'll do it. Great.
How long?
10 days comes back the response.
Okay. Let me know when I can come to pick it up.
Sure give us your old card.
Okay. What you don't just want to photocopy it or something like that?
No, leave it with us.
For 10 days coming up to xmas?
Yeah.
Well why not just tell me when the new card is ready and I will come to pick it up and give you the old one then?
No. Give us the old card or we will not order the new one.
But it will take 10 days for a new one right?
Yes. Give us your card. You can withdraw money now at the counter or come in when you need it.
But it's xmas and I don't know how much I will need. I've got to buy a trèe and presents and I haven't decided who santa's visiting or not and whether santa is going to be regretting spending too much again this year. Plus I like the convenience of being able to go to the atm particularly at night and if I meet a fragrant elf who I would like to buy some sherry for. Can't you just let me know when the new card is ready?
No.
It's a stupid policy.
Give us your card. You've signed the form.
But I don't want a new one now.
Give us your card.
It's xmas.
Give us your card.
I'lll cry.
Err. Okay. Don't you want a new card then?
Err. No. Thanks.
Thanks. Have a nice day.
You betcha. You too.
Bye.
Bye. Missing you already.
Bye.
Bye I'm still here.
Bye.
Bye.
We close in 5 minutes.
Oh okay. I'll go then.
Yeah. It's for the best.
Bye then.
Bye.
Thanks Acleda Bank for renewing my faith in Cambodian muppetry. Just when you think things are getting too sensible.

I gave up on ACLEDA when I tried to cash my traveler's check. Took multiple calls to big HQ and hours and hours later to get my money. Missus only keeps her money with them because it's the only game in the village.
Don't worry, be happy.

I got a new card a few months ago, it took maybe 15 minutes. CAMPU.

Yeah, same for internet banking. Set up really quickly.Lucky Lucan wrote:I got a new card a few months ago, it took maybe 15 minutes. CAMPU.
Only problem with them is that for any account admin you need to go back to the branch you opened the account in. Means I have to traipse back to Mao Tse Tung every time.
Asked to switch my account to Toul Kork - 'no, sir cannot. You can open a new account'

Always reassuring to read others similar experiences to ours.
Acleda are definitely part of the muppets show.
I too would recommend Campu or any other 100% subsidiary Malaysian bank. For added easiness I myself follow the banker executive I know and bank wherever he is working so I am now with CIMB after many years at Campu.

Another bank with more 21st century practices would be good. I have a Maybank ac and they issued a card very quickly - may have been same day at set up but can't vouch for that. Big advantage Acleda have is their network which is comprehensive with atms in the boonies - good for forays into the province. Pity they retarded in other ways.
Can't believe you're still using traveller's cheques, I'm fairly certain there was an article in the press not too long ago saying that Cambodian banks were no longer accepting them.newkidontheblock wrote:I gave up on ACLEDA when I tried to cash my traveler's check. .
Back on topic...
ABA were able to issue me a new Visa Debit card in 24 hours without having to hand over my old card. Acleda is full of incompetent staff who haven't got a clue .
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
