This is why I, amongst other sources, ask opinions of folk on here.

Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.

Quite surprising, I thought this might be an interesting thread for people. Obviously, for my learning but also generally but it, with the exception of a few great and valuable replies of good advice, just does not seem to be of interest.
Unusual, as there are some very financial savvy folk here.

Rich people don't need to think about such a useless thing
Poor people have no money to think about such a useless thing
Young people are too optimistic to think about such a useless thing
That covers 75% of the people on this board

Not biting, and in no way suggesting that the shit could get real, but happened to read this morning that Chinese government bond yields just inverted which is important for precious metals i guess.

Is gold basically a bet on which way U.S bond yields go at the moment?

Which is why it had the potential to be both an interesting and educational thread, alas it seems to be more 'If i told you, I would have to shoot you' type.scobienz wrote:Financially savvy people don't invest in silver.EdinWigan wrote:Quite surprising, I thought this might be an interesting thread for people. Just reading about gold and thought of this thread. Another reason to go with physical IN HAND metals is because Comex contracts can be settled using USD, meaning if you "own" 1 kg of gold, instead of having the power to demand gold, you might be handed worthless paper instead during a hyperinflation.

I bought and sold physical gold in KH before. Having no clue where to find some I enquired at the money changer I know well (one of the biggest after Ly Hour) who asked me how much I was after and called me back to proceed. Can't say I wasn't surprised when I saw him cut through a perfectly good looking UBS gold bar to make the exact quantity I was after
Illiquid, no? And you have no idea what you are buying all the way in Singapore. Not commenting on how good silver will be as an investment, but the miners usually broadly track the underlying metals (not exactly, but in general). For ease, just buy some silver miners on the LSE. Hochschild Mining even pays a small dividend.EdinWigan wrote:Well, silver bullion to be exact.
There is much talk of another crash, like 2008 (2007) Yes, yes, I know it might all be rumour and bunkum but hey ho!
So, I was looking to put some cash/shares out of harms way, well as much as can be...
I am no financial wizard, far from it but I have been drawn to buying some silver bullion in Singapore.
As, we have many people he with great knowledge, i wondered if some might like to share a little.
PM's also an option if it is more favourable, although i do think others might like to understand to pros and cons of such a venture.
Many thanks
Ed
