Wire Transfers
I have an account at Canadia. I sent them an e-mail about doing wire transfers to a US bank. They sent me a list of the fees and this addendum:
According to your inquiry about wire transfer, we would like to inform that our bank doesn’t have the limit of fund transfer but you must have enough documents referent and reason clearly too for your transferring.
I replied that I wasn't sure what "documents" they were referring to and that my reason was that I am a US citizen and I wanted my cash in a US bank. They replied:
According to your inquiry about wire transfer, we would like to inform that the documents reference it refer to “sources of fund and purpose of fund” that you want to transfer and all fund transfers you must have the reason clearly if you do not have enough reason for your fund transfer, the Central bank and receiver bank cannot accept your fund too that why our bank require “sources of fund and purpose of fund”
So I called them (I talked to the person who had been sending me these messages). I told him the sources of my funds and I still wasn't sure what documentation he was talking about. Finally he told me he didn't know. Anybody here have any experience with this?

I was told the same thing by ANZ Royal. Only once did they want to see paperwork (invoice) when I transferred a rather large amount. I guess this has to do with stopping money laundering.johntpartee wrote:I have an account at Canadia. I sent them an e-mail about doing wire transfers to a US bank. It is connected to anti money laundering.
When I make a transfer from
UK I am asked for reason for trade and source of funds.
I tell them living expenses and give them a copy of my Cambodia bank statement, for source of funds I give a vague 'general income' box and give them a copy of my UK account statement.
For transfers from here, they just need to know what box to tick. They rarely ask for proof, but maybe having a statement for the account you are transferring to up your sleeve might be helpful.
I've never been asked for proof transferring from Cambodia, just a reason.

Last time I transferred money, I had the same questions asked. Told them the money was to be used for food, accommodation ,beer and to pay for prostitutes,,,, but not necessary in that order. Must have been the right answer they wanted, as I had no problems transferring the money .

I'm withdrawing funds from a Chinese bank (I was a teacher there and my pay was direct deposited). I've been taking out 1000 USD (via ATM) at a time and depositing the money into the Canadia account. The only records I have of these transactions are the ATM receipts; I asked the rep if that would suffice (that's when he told me he didn't know what documentation was required). I suppose I could do it with Western Union, but it would make things much easier (and much cheaper) to do wire transfers.

I don't have any experience banking in Cambodia.
In the USA, when I want to wire money to someone, I don't call the bank or email the bank. I go to my branch and say I want to wire money and they give me the forms to fill out and wire the money.

Documents are only required for amounts above 10k, what those required docs are I have no idea sorry.

You should be able to easily transfer through SWIFT. For example, ABA offers a very simple form to fill out and bring to the bank.

Any reputable bank should be able to do this for you. Canadia's SWIFT connection is currently active, so I would presume that they should have a simple system in place as well. Instead of emailing them and telling them to do it, trying requesting their SWIFT form for international transfers, and fill that out (ABA's doesn't ask for source of income, only for purpose of transfer).

I would speculate that the OP would have to show a bank statement from the Chinese bank, which indicates regular salary deposits. Plus you might need a college work contract copy -- just in case. Canadia just has to see the source of the transfer money. Regular deposits should be good enough.

I know documentation is required in the US for transactions of ten grand or more [IRS Form 8300]), but does that apply here as well? A better question would be whether or not amounts less than 10,000 USD would require said document(s); it probably depends on the rules and regulations of which bank you're dealing with (or perhaps which bank rep you are talking to).PSD_Kiwi wrote:Documents are only required for amounts above 10k, what those required docs are I have no idea sorry.

Has anyone done a SWIFT transfer from Cambodia to US? How long does it take for the receiving bank to post the transfer? It was taken out of my Canadia account immediately (of course).
My experience with ACLEDA Bank was transfer received on the US side within a week.johntpartee wrote:Has anyone done a SWIFT transfer from Cambodia to US? How long does it take for the receiving bank to post the transfer? It was taken out of my Canadia account immediately (of course).
I have tried on a couple of occasions to transfer amounts above $10k to Aus and NZ, via SWIFT with ABA, they said I would need to provide documents proving the source of the funds and the intended purpose of the transfer, I didn't bother to ask for more details as it sounded like more hassle than it was worth.johntpartee wrote:I know documentation is required in the US for transactions of ten grand or more [IRS Form 8300]), but does that apply here as well? I regularly transfer amounts less than 10k (usually 9k or less at a time as the fees are cheaper) via ABA, no documentation is required. I usually do this via ABA's online banking, very simple, except for one account with ANZ Australia which for some reason I cannot send via the online banking portal and have to physically do in person at an ABA branch.

Just wanted to let everybody know that the SWIFT transfer from Canadia to my US account took less than 18 hours.
