Hello business class bongs,
With regards to travel and foreign exchange, is there a general rule that if you are going to a country with a stronger currency and economy (than the base foreign currency you are holding), then most of the time it's better to exchange in the weaker base currency country?
Not just talking about riel here as it's not worth much outside Cambodia. Kip is even worse i think.
Generally you aint gonna get as good a rate for most SEA currency in developed Barangland though right?
Cheers

I would say that generally speaking that is the case.
Certainly the local exchanges here give very fair rates for major currencies (better than you would get from your high street bank back home).
The Phnom Penh exchanges also have very good rated for neighbouring countries.
Stay away from the big banks here, especially ANZ.

Kiwi's should bring in NZ dollars, check and change around the central market. much better rate than home and save on them visa card fees.
avoid banks.

Your best bet is probably Ly Hour money exchange - although even that is most likely a long shot.
To find your nearest branch, check:

Yeah, every so often I break a US bill into riel, for some local market grocery shopping usually.
Always feels good to make a bit of a profit on the FX as well
