Excuse off topic question, but quite a few finance chaps on here so thought i'd have a go.
I've been getting quotes for car insurance for here in Ireland and they seem a tad extortionate coming in at €1600 for someone with zero years claims bonus, who effectively will have to get insured as a first time driver.
Another major insurer said they dont insure drivers unless they have at least 2 years claims bonus, whilst yet another said i needed to have an Irish drivers licence.
There are no compare sites for car insurance in Ireland.
My father only pays £200 for car insurance in Blighty.
Could i get insured with UK/English car insurance for Ireland no problem?
Cheers Bongs

Car insurance in barangland
"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
Only suggestion is to check classic car insurers in Ireland in case they are the same as the UK.
I bought an insurance group 20 car when I was mid-twenties, but very nearly didn't when I tried to get insurance quotes. They ranged from £2,000 low end, to £4,500 top end (Direct Line). After a bit of research on this type of car/clubs, etc, I gave Lancaster Insurance (no idea if it still exists) a call and feared the worse; the guy threw £300 at me, and that was that, car & insurance sorted!
However, as I got a bit older & had a second car, brand new Jeep Cherokee for tackling the mountains around Sevenoaks (and school run), I was surprised that they offered to insure both together for £450 - and the Cherokee is not a classic car by any stretch of the imagination. Again, Eagle Star & others had insurance down to about £1,100 (just for the Jeep) if my memory is any good, so £450 for two cars, including one death machine, was a no-brainer. Even without the classic car, the classic car insurer would still be an option.

Cheers for that. Called a classic car specialist, and will look for more.
Jeez, been driving since 1989 and used to drive all day in England on the job, but still they want to penalise me for fucking off to the other side of the world.
Hey, in Cambodia, i reckon i could drive without insurance and kill someone on the road in a hit & run for around €1600 ?
The world is all wrong i swear.

Have you tried having your dad insure it in UK and put you on as a regular driver?spitthedog wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:10 amExcuse off topic question, but quite a few finance chaps on here so thought i'd have a go.

Have you had a friend try in paddyland?
You would hurt their insurance premium if you did, so you would have to avoid accidents n stuff. I've done it before.
I love bitches n gonna fuck Texas and the USA+ right up their god damn ass! Hallelujah!
I think those blood rates have risen as fast as the Mekong has! I wouldn’t dare driving here without insurance - get in an accident and just lock yourself in the car and call them to come sort it.spitthedog wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 4:56 pm

There are similar issues in the Uk for returning expats, although not so extreme. When I returned in 2016 the initial quotes I got were for around £1400. However I shopped around and eventually got a deal with Direct Line for £800. The issue - as you say - is being s middle aged guy with no years NCB.spitthedog wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:10 amExcuse off topic question, but quite a few finance chaps on here so thought i'd have a go.

My insurance for a brand new £35k car this year will be around £550 fully comp.
If you buy a €900 shit box you’ll pay less. If you buy a €15k newish car you’ll pay triple or quadruple the amount.
Also, ask about black boxes that lower insurance premiums.
Or, slightly dodgy, get one of the insurers here to say you’ve got five years no claims on company letterhead, for a small fee >cough<.
