This is very interesting.asiatraveller wrote:Vipassana courses are taught in Cambodia at the Dhamma Latthika Vipassana Centre in Battambang. The next full courses are being offered between 2nd-13th November and 17th-28th Nevember.
Just an addition to the comments about whether or not Vipassana courses are 'taught' in English.....I have completed two of their 10 day silent meditation courses in different countries (Thailand and Burma) and the instructions are always given via a CD in English by S.N.Goenka. You'll hear this being played at the beginning and end of each mediatation session. You'll also be shown his course DVD in the evenings.
I can't recommend these courses highly enough. Make sure you stay until the end - you will have your doubts throughout the 10 days, but stick with it! The elation you'll have on the day you break silence is pretty special.
Good luck!
I've done a 10-day Viipassana course before in Thailand, also done the full 30-day Vipassana in Chiang Mai, and another 30-day Vipassana with an extra 10-day extension.
You get exactly what you put into these courses. From experience though, if you want the ultimate pay-off (these courses are designed to bring about enlightenment experiences) having a teacher who you fully understand guiding you makes the world of difference.
I really need another "top up" and would love to do one of these 10-day courses... assuming that the level of instruction is adequate. Doesnt need to be in English, but they need to know what they are doing - Vipassana teachers are taught the step-by-step process involved in loosening the grip of the mind, and skilled teachers can recognise the stage a meditator is up to and give good guidance to help them move through it and, so, increase the students chance of achieving self awareness.
Look forward to hearing some feedback from anyone who goes....
I'm attending the ten day course in Battambang on 2 November. Will let you know how it goes for me. It's that step by step process of loosening the grip on the mind, and reactions, that is the tool I'm in need of right now. I've had good reports from someone who attended in Australia also... but don't know anyone who has been to the Battambang one.Doctor Seuss wrote:

It looks really nice, but I don't know what courses they offer, and if they teach in English. I want to see Kep anyways, so I will check it out.
Thanks.

No. I was booked on to the one in Cambodia, circumstances intervened and I couldn't get there. So I booked on to one in Australia, and again circumstances intervened and I didn't get to do it.
I know three people who have done it. One in Thailand and two at different centres in Australia. One person still actively uses the meditation techniques. One person used it for a time but her partner wasn't on the same wavelength and it made maintaining it on a daily basis difficult. However, she said (and it was obvious), that when she practiced the meditation she was calm, sane and rational... when she didn't her mind was all over the place and all the paranoia, self-doubt came back. The final person, began the course but didn't finish it. Reason being, he simply wasn't ready to face up to himself.
He could have finished it, but he knew he'd just be going through the motions and not actually gaining much, so he chose to leave until he was ready to do it properly.
From all accounts, it's not something to do when too off-kilter. Best to do it when in a reasonably good state of mind.
Sorry I can't give more info.
The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.

Hi there
The post is a bit old but I think the information is interesting: in October 2013, in Siem Reap, a new place is opening called Angkor Zen Gardens retreat center. It will a retreat center based on meditation, yoga and other natural therapies. 7 bungalows for 2 people are built, a restaurant and a big hall for activities, all of this on a huge garden 3 km outside Siem Reap. Check the website: http://www.angkorzen.com for more info.
Hope this helps!

I did the vipassana center in Battambang, it was just fine, a bit rustic but all needs met. I must've lost 10 lbs. in 10 days, though, and after the 3rd and 4th day, you're sailing and it's great. My back killed me though, at first, and my knees hurt so bad I couldn't run for a week, but it's ok, the peace is great, hang in there, don't be a wuss and distracted. Vegetarian food is decent, and the law of silence is for THOSE GUYS, so abide by it and live in peace, you'll understand why the silence when the cacophony returns after the 10th day, evryone chattering madly, different languages and accents...it's for ease of personal relations, no disagreements this way...it's great.

What's is Jake's background (in meditation, I mean), and what price range are we looking at?
I came, I argued, I'm out
Lama Jake has been a Buddhist monk for many years and he can teach Buddhist meditation. Prices are in the website (http://www.angkorzen.com) but it depend if you would stay at the center or in Siem Reap by yourself. There is a fee for activities like Yoga, Tai Chi and others but Meditation is free, anyone can join.
Hope to see you in October or later
Peace

Hi Guys,
I'm off to the Dhamma Latthika Vipassana Centre in Battambang this November and was hoping to get some tips on travel and the retreat itself - From anyone who has attended this or a similar retreat - What to wear, washing etc.
I'm currently in Thailand and will be traveling from Pattaya, though I would like to take the train from bangkok to the border at Aranyaprathet and travel to the centre from there if possible?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading my post,
Best Regards to all
John
