Borax?
Borax?
Hello folks,
Where can a person get ahold of some borax (aka sodium borate, aka sodium tetraborate, aka disodium tetraborate) in this fine city of Phnom Penh? I have decided that the ant roommates must die, die, and die again. They don't pay rent and they keep touching me. Bad roomies in general.
I have checked the Lucky supermarket at Sovanna, Pharmacie de la Gare, as well as a smattering of other stores. Basically, if I go into any store, I look for borax. So far my search efforts have proven fruitless.
I know that borax is usually a basic ingredient in clothing detergent, but thus so far I have not found any brand which contains it. They all seem to have every other sodium compound under the sun, but alas not borax.
We are running a clean ship, but the ants just won't move on. Can anyone please point me in the direction of a place where borax flows freely? I mean, come on, where did those naughty noodle makers get it? There has to be a supply somewhere.

no idea on borax, but at lucky we bought some of those black "traps" where they come, grab some grub, take it back and pass it around. kills the whole nest. worked like a charm.

OrangeDragon, which Lucky? I tried looking for something like that at Sovanna and didn't find anything. I was looking in the bug spray section and just saw a bunch of raid cans and mosquito coils.
jm, how did you even come across that? Love for all things for Regan? Obsession with old comercials? Fetish for borax? Thanks for the giggle.

Got it. Thanks! Truth be told, we are fringing it ourselves. Though, we are willing to go to the far corners of Phnom Penh for my war on ants. Well, I am willing at least. The s/o will come along to get me to shut up about ants.

Hmmmm.... Are the ants you're talking about perhaps a cover up for your sweaty feet? http://www.lformula.com/index.php?part=him002&page=037

It works on sweaty feet too? Woohoo! No more dying of hot feeties disease. What is the deal with those salts in the recipes, i.e. Salitsilovovismutovoy salt 20g, Uglekaltsievoy salt 50g, and Margantsevokalievoy salt 0.25g?

Don't really know about the salts, just googled the uglekaltsievoy salt (what's in a name) and it appears to be pure chalk , or dolomite...
Have fun searching for the others, and in the meanwhile, keep them stinky ay !!!

Actually, we have tried many of those methods. Soapy water does indeed work very well at killing the ants that are present, but not the colony, aka the queen. In fact, we set up some soapy water traps using a small bowl with some soapy water inside and smaller cup inside the bowl to protect table legs. That is working like a charm. Vinegar also works well at erasing ant trails. Raid works even better than vinegar, but we have cats and it is quite toxic. These ants are persistent though, even being like "Hey everyone! Come check out this toothpaste. It's what ants crave!"RainMan wrote:Great methods on here including soapy water:

I want a WMD that will take out the queen without taking out my cats. Thanks for providing some more info though! I am sure the link you provided will prove to be useful to others.
