Heat index charts
I know 2 foreigners who were rushed to hospital yesterday for heat exhaustion. Royal-D, and at least 3 liters of water a day, are much cheaper than a trip to a hospital or clinic.
Right now in PP, we are in the danger zone, and not a Top Gun Kenny Loggins one.

With a good diet there is no need I think. When I grew up we talk salt tablets, this is no longer recommended today. I do take electrolytes on runs longer than 20K but I lose 2+ liters an hour when running. For most expats any exercise is confined walking from the Tuk-tuk to work (or bar); I do not think electrolytes are needed for that.Lucky Lucan wrote:It's an electrolyte drink for dehydration.Hanno wrote:Why Royal-D?

Beer is an electrolyte? Then I withdraw my previous statement.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:A magical elixir indeed in expat circles.Lucky Lucan wrote:It's an electrolyte drink for dehydration.Hanno wrote:Why Royal-D?

I also support Royal-D.
It is a magical elixir in expat circles,
You don't even need to exercise to use it.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

what nonsense. Of course people can.LexusSchmexus wrote:It's mostly just sugar, but I do use it when doing several hours of physical exertion outside. I don't know how anyone could get a heat stroke or get dehydrated in Phnom Penh unless they were running a marathon or something.

The only exercise most expats get is running late, and skipping meetings.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Of course they can. Even short amounts of exertion in 40°heat can be rough. I can cycle 30 km no problem, and back a bit later, but on top of a ladder in an unventilated area fixing some electrics or whatever for five minutes and I feel like I'm going to drop dead, while the sweat pours like a river into my eyes. People get dehydrated all the time from all sorts of conditions. Electrolytes are an important part in dealing with this. If more people drank Royal - D or some better equivalent, they wouldn't have to go to clinics and pay way over the odds for saline drips.violet wrote:what nonsense. Direct sun exposure too can completely destroy you much sooner than you realise.
Thing that kill me here is low potassium from all the sweating (since I hate bananas). Just walked 10 stories of stairs up and down today and my legs were cramped so badly I had to wait a few minutes before I could get on my bike and go home.

What a bunch of bloody soft cocks! Try strapping on a 40kg Alice pack, plus webbing and weapons, and humping 20 clicks up hill in virgin rainforest whilst trying to remain as silent as possible so that you don't get your bloody head shot off!
Just dump a butt load of salt and sugar into your water, no need to waste money on magical remedies!... Or drink coconut milk, just as effective, if not more so.
