Been resisting these for a few years but a doc in London finally convinced me I had to take them in late Feb.
Since then had 3 batches: batch one (bought in the UK) no discernible side effects, despite what I'd read and heard. Hooray, thought I. I'm one of the lucky ones.
Batch 2, ostensibly the same company, Sandoz, noticed a creeping tension in the chest shoulders and upper arms which continued to get worse through the month.
Batch 3, a cheaper generic and have me living in hell. Whole upper body in muscular spasm an hour or so after taking them.
I don't know if it's cumulative and will just keep on the same or even get worse or if it's possible I've got moody pills, bought in Cambodia. The statin industry is worth billions after all.
Anyone else take this stuff and have nasty side effects? My prescription is 80mg Atorvastatin per day, which seems a lot.
Statins. Do you Take them? Side Effects?
Am not a great fan of statins, in any event I would personally not be continuing with batch 3.RobW wrote:Been resisting these for a few years but a doc in London finally convinced me I had to take them in late Feb.

Concerning side effects of Liptor (Astrovastatin) - Recomendation is stop taking atorvastatin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness;http://www.rxlist.com/lipitor-drug/pati ... ffects.htm
Personally I decided not to take statins. You might want to read this
How statistical deception created the appearance that statins are safe and effective in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Diamond DM1, Ravnskov U. Expert Rev Clin Pharmacol. 2015 Mar;8(2):201-10
Abstract
We have provided a critical assessment of research on the reduction of cholesterol levels by statin treatment to reduce cardiovascular disease. Our opinion is that although statins are effective at reducing cholesterol levels, they have failed to substantially improve cardiovascular outcomes. We have described the deceptive approach statin advocates have deployed to create the appearance that cholesterol reduction results in an impressive reduction in cardiovascular disease outcomes through their use of a statistical tool called relative risk reduction (RRR), a method which amplifies the trivial beneficial effects of statins. We have also described how the directors of the clinical trials have succeeded in minimizing the significance of the numerous adverse effects of statin treatment.

When I started taking them, I experienced muscle cramps, but they disappeared after a while. This was in The Netherlands. I bought simvastatin in several countries, also in Cambodia, last year I had a rash that only appeared in the morning, so I got a pill for that and it went away.... A friend had a similar rash and her GP recommended stopping with simvastatin for a while and see what would happen: the rash went away. I did the same with the same result.
This year I had my cholesterol levels checked after a change of diet and they were ok, so I stopped taking them altogether.
Tons of videos on youtube on how bad statins are for you.

They started you at 80 mg? Good God. Is your cholesterol through the roof? How many pills or how big is the pill?
Are you taking it for something other than high cholesterol?
My initial dose for slightly to moderately high cholesterol was a 10 mg pill cut in half and taken every other day. That's 2.5 mg a day. I'm now up to 5 mg a day.
Does the doctor who prescribed it know that you're a terrible alcoholic? I don't think this stuff is good for the liver.

Personally, I'd prefer high cholesterol.

I am on Atorvastatin 20mg no adverse side effects.
It seems some brands affect some folk, others no one
It is important, i was told to take at the same time each day (I was told evening ) and very important, if you forget not to double dose.

Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.
