Ok I'm a Deathpat.
Does anyone here self medicate high blood pressure. I am up around 150, In theory does that shorten my life by a third. I have read in medical write up in a Thai newspaper that its hard to keep people over 60 below 150. What I should be on, Sevikar (Phifer), was AUD $15 back home for a month but is $42 ($56 kangaroo pesos, ouch) at Glare. Is anyone on a generic drug from India ect. at a more local price.
Self medicate high blood pressure
MIght be a good idea to see a doctor, get a medical, get some guidance if you are worried.
Trying to save a few dollars by self medicating with dubious medication could be the death of you.

yes i agree see a doc ,as when i went on bp pills i tried about 4/6 different types to come up with the right one ,
What might work for you depends on a lot of factors.
If you're not too overweight you can just try Amlodipin 10 mg twice a day, it'll work in about 70% of the cases and rarely has side effects, but if you're in the other 30% group I guess you need an experienced doc to guide you.

I would seriously consider getting help from a specialist. A doctor if you want medication, or somebody that can help you out with nutrition and exercise if you want to address the cause rather than a symptomatic approach.
Don't mess around, it's your life you're talking about

As a number of posters have said "go and see a doctor" I would advise that you go to Central Hospital and get a heart check up http://www.central-hospital.com/ch/ You can get a comprehensive screening done which includes kidney and liver function tests, but if cost is an issue, you could just go for the salient heart function tests.
You can go in and confirm prices with ms. Geli, the admin manager, but the following is what I would expect. Consultation $20, diagnostic cardiac ultrasound and ECG around $50. Blood tests cost mostly between $1 and $2 each. You can discuss which you really need,it will probably be around four or five. Results for all blood tests are usually available within an hour
If you want a fasting blood sugar (diabetes) test its best to arrive in the morning having not consumed anything for 8 hours or so. Whatever medications you are prescribed there is no need to buy from the hospital pharmacy. Go to pharmacy Phsar Tapang on the corner of 136/51 which is very close. You can get the generics there if you wish and they are considerably cheaper than the brand names.

Thanks to Kachang I went looking up Amlodipin 10 mg and found it contains some of what is in sevikar, so i looked up sevikar to see its active ingredients and went to local HELP pharmacy it see if they had them as separate medicine. Should have done it long ago. Bingo, $2.50 for a bubble pack of each, $7.50 a month. Stuff big phama phifer and glare when they did their remodeling should have been able to build a sky scraper on that corner. Dont worry me that they may be made in Bombayistan somewhere. Seeing that these tablets were prescribed to me back home I should be safe to use them. I know the side affects, if one gets up from lying down too quickly, one stumbles all over the place. The general alcohol warning, well I think big phama puts that on all medicine to cover their selves as to say I warned you so. thanks all
But check your BP regularly from now on, sevikar contains Olmesartan too. If just Amlodipine is enough for you, you're fine. If not, change to the combi treatment.Ouch wrote:Thanks to Kachang I went looking up Amlodipin 10 mg and found it contains some of what is in sevikar, so i looked up sevikar to see its active ingredients and went to local HELP pharmacy it see if they had them as separate medicine. I was able to buy amoidipine besilate and olmesartan medoxomil (who gets paid to dream up these names) seperately in the same dosage as prescribed back home. It will take a month for them to kick in, even then they will only lower pressure to 120 which is still considered hypertension.

120 (systolic) hypertension??? I think you should probably seek professional advice rather than self medicateOuch wrote:Thanks Kachang

120 over 70 is perfectly normal.
180 over 120 on the other hand.........

Hmm, I'm just off 60 years old and my BP is typically 110/65, resting HR is about 42 ('cos I exercise a lot etc, not due to a dicky ticker)....its hard to keep people over 60 below 150
There is usually a damn good reason why you have a BP over 150, and it is nothing to do with generics. Think lard-bucket, a diet full of sugar and zilch exercise
As others have suggested, get this checked out by a doctor!
