How do you stay healthy?
Yes, the half marathon was pretty well organised. I plodded round at a sedate pace.
Thinking I may do a few more of these in the region. They are a good excuse to do a bit of travelling and it's good to have something to focus on for keeping fit. Unfortunately the Saigon half seems to be sold out for January.

I’ve never liked running. It’s just so bloody boring.
I’ve never understood people who say they enjoy it. It hurts my joints and it’s also more dangerous than playing with a loaded pistol whilst drunk and blindfolded, especially in PP.
I like to bike it, bike it. I like to. BIKE IT!

I ran past him, must have been a just a minute or two after he went down. He looked very dead. Poor chap.

Probably had nothing to do with running. Embolism, blood clot etc.
RIP dude.

Oh yes, biking is so much safer than running. I find the problem with being on a bike is that nobody expects you to be doing 30 kilometers an hour and all this fucktardery goes on: drivers pulling out right in front of you, doors being opened without checking, etc.YaTingPom wrote:I’ve never liked running. It was pretty warm and humid and quite a few people looked in a bad way at the finish.YaTingPom wrote:Probably had nothing to do with running. Embolism, blood clot etc.

Yes that’s true. People are taken by surprise plus you make no noise.Hanno wrote:Oh yes, biking is so much safer than running. I like to skim dogs lying in the road. They shit themselves!
I’d never attempt to cycle in PP or SHV. Too much traffic and dust. Kampot it very pleasant to ride and often there’s no traffic (salt workers road). Nice.

I cycle a bit in Phnom Penh, usually to Larry's Bar. It's the easiest way to get there if I'm on my own. I don't ride a motorcycle any more and getting in and out by car is just not practical on a weekday evening.

Yea, there wasn't a cold beer in sight at the finish! As the standing HHH representative in Siem Reap you'll have to organize some for next time...Hanno wrote:It was pretty warm and humid and quite a few people looked in a bad way at the finish.YaTingPom wrote:Probably had nothing to do with running. Saigon half could be fun, think we can crash it, or slightly more regulated than this one?slavedog wrote:Yes, the half marathon was pretty well organised. I plodded round at a sedate pace.

Ha Noi Marathon at Ceputra is a nice run but this year it clashed with Siem Reap. The HCMC run is also nice if a little on the warm side. The Luang Prabang half marathon is one of my favorites.

Let me google that for you:

You could do one almost every weekend if you wanted.

True, especially in winter. But not all runs are created equal. Bangkok? Where one of the half marathons turned out to be 7 kilometers longer and the marathon I ran there about 4 kilometers longer? Sihanoukville? The first run was nice but now one runs along endless fences blocking out all views and has to worry about getting hit by a Chinese drunk driver. Penang? Love the place but the marathon was one of the most boring I ever did; running across this huge bridge and back.amirite wrote:Let me google that for you:

I am actually more into trail running these days and the scene in Vietnam is exploding; I have signed up for 5 ultras next year. That will either be the fittest year ever or I will be dead.

Yeah, perhaps on reflection I should just stick to hashing - more fun anyway.

P.S. I had no trouble buying an ice cold can of beer from a local vendor as soon as I crossed the finish line in Siem Reap.
