Testosterone
For the few men who have low testosterone, replacement therapy supervised by a doctor is probably safe and effective. Most men don't have a problem, however. The PROBLEM, as in so many cases, is that humans tend to think more is better. So some will inject, trying to boost the effects. Here's a true story: When I was in high school, a good friend was encouraged by his baseball coach to take steroids. I noticed he gained weight and muscle at an astonishing rate. His moods started swinging, he became edgy. One day he got into an argument with his brother, beat the hell out of him. I lost track after high school, ran into him years later. He was very thin, small, shrunken. He told me his heart was failing, needed a transplant. The steroids came back and bit him. He died, age 50, before a heart could be provided. That turned me off most performance enhancing drugs. I see where a lot of people are taking testosterone these days. For the right reasons, no problem - but most are taking it even with normal levels of testosterone. Well, it's their heart and body.
I take pea powder protein to gain mass. I also eat peanut butter, does the same thing. Oh, and Greek yoghurt. Creatine daily, as well as caffeine before working out. Total of 150 grams protein per day. I'm gaining about a kilo every ten days, and it's all muscle. I'm 68, just don't need testosterone, as my body is producing plenty. I sleep 8 hours a day, plenty of energy, look and feel like 30-something. I was always very thin, ectomorph, no body at all. Not now - I've had strangers tell me how good I look.
You want to take testosterone, I would urge you to first try a healthy diet, exercise 4 or 5 days a week, strenuously, cut out/down the booze, get to bed at a decent hour. Try it for a month, see how you feel. If you still feel lacking in vitality, get the blood work done, see what your t count is.
Pea powder is a great source of protein, with no downside. Cheap. I don't eat meat or fish, making it difficult to consume enough protein from just nuts, beans, whole grains, so I supplement with the pea powder. My goal isn't to get huge, it's to get solid, which I now am. I'm not going to develop 22.5 inch biceps. I COULD, maybe, with steroids, but aside from the health concerns, all that mass has to be maintained. That requires a lot of protein, every day, for as long as you want to keep those guns. That's a ton of food, 5 times or so a day, every day. Expensive, too, 5000 calories or so, daily.
Not bro science, as a previous poster stated. Just letting you know what I've experienced. I haven't an axe to grind here, just sharing. One more thing. Get healthy - now. It's the only way to go. I was a boozer, partied hard for the first 39 years. Felt like shit most mornings, wasted a large portion of my life. Not now. Now my body feels like a Lamborghini. I feel so good, I can't imagine feeling any better.

A guy in the family of one of my friends was a professional body builder. He used to go on about how safe all the "supplements" were. Of course, he ate well too, did plenty of exercise etc.

You lost me at this sorry, that's quite impossible for a man of your age unless perhaps you'd previously been a professional Mr. Olympia competitor and some form of muscle memory was kicking back in? Are you Casey Viator in disguise? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_Experiment (very dubious, 99% likely enhanced, 63lbs in 28 days)rgrowden wrote:I'm gaining about a kilo every ten days, and it's all muscle. I'm 68,
At 40 I started lifting for the first time everin my life, under supervision from a professional bodybuilder, including nutrition plans, 1-1 training, etc, and I got beginner gains of 1/2kg per month maximum, after 3-4kgs that tailed off pretty quick to around 100g per month.
Honestly if you've got those gains I'd salute you, but in contrast if you've been economical with the truth, I think it also sends out the wrong information to folks who would have been like you & me for starters (ectomorph, skinny sods that burn off 1kg of chocolate just by breathing for 30 minutes) about what is achievable without enhancement. It is a long hard slog and I'm sure you know it. Earlier in this or other threads I think many have cited that consistency is the key factor - consistency in intensive training, consistency in good diet, consistency in rest - and that is over periods measured in years or decades, there are no quick fixes.

Bat's ban has ceased, and he's back polluting other posts.
So I removed his comment and replaced it with this warning.
Stop polluting threads and stay in your cage.
I feel another ban approaching.
Regards,
Scoffer.

This month for the first time in years I am gaining about a kg a week....I doubt that will last much longer. Anyone who knows me knows it isn't blubber. So it is possible at an older age to do, you just have to nail the workout and diet that works for you (I am 50).

A kilo is 2.2 pounds. I gained 3 k's in about a month, then it leveled off. Not much is fat, but enough to notice. I worked it out, about an extra 500 calories a day for the greek yoghurt and peanut butter. I took 3 days off and noticed the fat creep back. Now I'm hitting the weights harder, trying to gain muscle. Tough balancing act. Here's a pretty good overview of testosterone replacement therapy, and another of t supps.

Good muscle gains at your age need plenty of quality calories and very heavy lifting .rgrowden wrote:A kilo is 2.2 pounds. I gained 3 k's in about a month, then it leveled off. You don't eat meat or fish and rely on pea protein , peanut butter and yogurt yet claim to consume 150 gram per day ....that seems a lot of pea , peanut and dairy to get to 150 gram . Peanut butter is a source of protein but so calorie dense it doesn't make sense to use it , one would need to eat half a jar to get 20 gram of protein but the same amount would be about 1000 calories.
Anyway getting back to testosterone supplements. I have tried sustanon 250 . Did for about 3 months , 2 or 3 vials a week . It works well . Very difficult to body build big without it and heavy lifting . Still need to train hard , the sups just give a lot of gains you would not get just food alone .
I eat enough protein for my workouts along with pizza , chocolate , and a heap of other junk food just to maintain my fat belly .
