Wedding Certificate - Notarised
Hi,
I have final gone through all the bureaucracy of a Khmer wedding and successfully obtained the official 'wedding certificate'.
Next step is to have this translated into English and notarised.....any suggest on the best course of action to complete this?
British Embassy are not offering this service but have given me a list of legal companies to go to, which sounds expensive, will use if I have to but would like to consider all the options first.
Many thanks.

I tend to sleep in the nude. Which isn't a bad thing except for maybe on those long flights.
Usually you should get an official ministry stamped English translation (about 5 copies?) along with the wedding certificate? Admittedly did mine quite some time back, maybe things have changed. For my son's UK passport application I used Pyramid down at the PP Centre for translation of my wife's birth certificate; they asked for one day, but as a one pager it can be expedited for a small fee to same day - I'm assuming the same for marriage certificate.

@spigzy, how long ago did you get spigzy jr's uk passport?
Massive stalker
The official marriage certificate is issued by the Sangkat, no English translations are included. The MoFAIC (Ministry of Foreign Affairs ) will provide official certified translations for a fee ($10+), or you can get unofficial translations from Pyramid Translation for $11.Spigzy wrote:Usually you should get an official ministry stamped English translation (about 5 copies?) along with the wedding certificate? I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Applied this year, still don't have it yet mind, it's 18+ weeks according to the website, if it is as efficient as the VFS Global office that'll probably be 18+ months or years...pedros wrote:@spigzy, how long ago did you get spigzy jr's uk passport?

That's the badger; fortunately had a fixer doing all the running as it was the norm back then, got copious copies of everything/translations, etc.PSD_Kiwi wrote:The official marriage certificate is issued by the Sangkat, no English translations are included. If you need a notarized version the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is where you need to go. They will provide you with three English versions, all stamped and signed and those documents will be accepted in foreign countries.

Thank you people!
Yes, certificate came from local Sangkat but only in Khmer (one original copy).
I do have a 'fixer' contact so will look to work this through the MoFA.
For anyone's future reference I'll post the outcome here.
Thanks.

It's easy to have documents fixed @ MOF by yourself (well, for documents they're allowed to do that is), no need for a fixer AFAIK. Bring the document plus 10-15 USD and you'll be fine. Ignore the touts at the entrance, enter, ignore all the doors at the front facing the entrance, walk straight (with the entrance behind you) and make sure you keep the building to your right side - and take the first door at the left side of the building (you're right hand). There's a long corridor and the people you're looking for are at the far end, before the stairs.

I wonder how much it cost Kennzo to get around the "must be under 50 years of age" rule when it comes to foreigners marrying Khmer women.
