Cambodian Passport Question
Cambodian Passport Question
Im not an expat, but I'm hoping someone here has some experience with the issue im facing. My wife entered the US on a K-1 visa. When she obtained her greencard she used her married name but her cambodian passport still listed her maiden name. To reconcile this we sent her passport to the cambodian embassy in washington DC and they added her married name with an embassy stamp to the passport. Now we need to get my wife a new passport. This can only be done in Cambodia. The problem is that when we went to get the new passport we were told by the "handler" we used that the name on the passport would need to match her Cambodian ID card, which contains her maiden name. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I'm guessing that if her name on her passport and visa do not match we will have trouble entering the US. Once back in the US I can just get her married name added at the cambodian embassy, but that does not seam to be an option in Cambodia.

Oftentimes instead of a new cambodian passport they can just stamp the old one to extend it. Can they do that this time?Shadrach wrote:Im not an expat, but I'm hoping someone here has some experience with the issue im facing. My wife entered the US on a K-1 visa. If not, and she gets a brand new one, can she keep her old one? Oftentimes expired passports are used in tandem with the new passport as they contain visas.
She will need to legally change her name, go to the Department of Identification in Chbar Ampouv, not far from the passport office.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Thanks for the information. We will head to the identification department. I assume they will want to see a copy of our marriage certificate. If so do you know if we need to have it translated?
No idea sorry, but I’d say it’s likely that they will require a translated copy.
