Very pertinent information, and I apologize for the above ^^kiwikhmer23 wrote:He's my husband. We are married, live together and have a child together.logos wrote:Stop banging their daughter and make it a distance relationship.
If you’re married, live together, and have kids, what kinds of issues are you having with the in laws? Who’s the main financial provider in the family, you or him?

Can you give a little time nsight into the complication? The details dictate the approach.

i cant for the life of me imagine why a kiwi female would come to live in cambo and marry a khmer, except if <unfavourable assessment retained>
yes violet would be your best bet she is the only female available who has hung out in cambo for far too long and thus would assumed to be the most knowledgeable of khmer values and processes from a female point of view

I don’t think there will be many on the forum that can give good advice. There are some men who have married a Khmer lass (or two) but your situation is unique to theirs.
I have a female friend who married a Khmer guy and have had a kid. Her in laws are extremely proud that their son has snared a barang. They make sure everyone knows about it. However, she has a very limited relationship with the in laws. She believes (and I understand where she is coming from) that the inlaws are intimidated by her as she turns traditional roles upside down (she is main earner) - they just don’t know how to speak to her.

There is a fairly prominent, well regarded in government circles, foreign lady who married her driver. Now, maybe 15 years later they are still happily married. He runs a successful business and they have several kids.
Don’t be such a cynic. It’s possible to make it work.

You probably weren't being serious, but in case you were, there are many more qualified than me. It's really not a rarity to have a barang woman/Khmer male relationship. They are all over the place. Why shouldn't a woman, kiwi or otherwise, marry a Cambodian male? Are they inferior to other males in some way?

I believe the OP is actually living in NZ, where she met her husband, as are the ex-wife (who is also a Kiwi) and the mother in law....none of the parties involved are living in Cambodia.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Yes that's correct we are in NZ. I don't think the issue is I'm not Cambodian as they knew their son would not marry someone they suggested. It is complicated because his ex who he has children to also has told many lies about us to his mum.his mum obviously wants to maintain the relationship with her grandchildren so keeps the ex around. All his family here say push her out but I'm not really concerned about her relationship so much as building my own with the MIL. It doesn't matter it seems near on impossible so I think we just have to accept it for what it is.
