I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I don’t imagine that there will be many (if any) resources available specifically for Khmer people which would be useful.
Khmer people aren’t renowned for their teaching ability. I remember when I was learning Khmer, the various teachers would introduce the most random words and topics.

So how did you go about learning Khmer then? Stick with the teachers that taught a little randomly, go to a school, design your own curriculum?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: Khmer people aren’t renowned for their teaching ability. After about 3 months learning I realised that I was going to need to take the lead in classes. I was learning how to book a hotel room and buy a train ticket in Khmer - topics which were much less useful than business/office language.Miguelito wrote:So how did you go about learning Khmer then? So I created scenarios which were useful for me and chatted them through in each lesson, writing down new words which I felt I would use. This was much more useful for me as I was acquiring words which I was using regularly in my work which meant i was retaining them much quicker.
Other things, for example market language and bus ticket/train ticket language I have picked up over the years through everyday life.
After reading the OP I had a 2 minute look on YouTube and found a couple of lessons which were typical Khmer teaching Khmer. Lists of vocab, which are a tad unusual - I have observed that when Khmer teach Khmer it is often not so much about ‘How can I teach you best?’ as ‘How can I show you how clever I am?’.
This is a generalisation of course - but I have seen it many times.
I have found multiple videos on Utube of Khmer people attempting to teach English to other Khmers.
Unfortunately none of them were of any value.
My wife commented that they spoke to fast, did not pronounce words clearly, skitted between words / topics without finalising the prior word/topic.
I will keep looking and will report back if I find one that is good.

My daughter is 11 and has not been at school in Australia for one year yet but her English is amazing. She has a specialised teacher once a week whose brother lives in Penh Penh. Ex Australian military and I think that he is in the Embassy.
She wants to be a teacher so maybe this is an opportunity to teach Khmers online. Her diction is excellent with little Australian accent, thank christ.
