They are not giving them out, 1-year visas. I forgot to mention in my earlier post the $550-$650 backdoor 1-year visas are available from agents inside Vietnam.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g2 ... l.Voa.htmlU.S. CITIZENS-- As of 25 Aug 2016, 1 month, 3 month and 6 month VOA is not available any more, only a 1 year visa. Fee to process approval letter: 1 year validity is $35 and up/person (varies by vendor) and stamping fee at VN airport is: $135.
I was able to get my Russian Governess a 12 month business visa without any hassle at all here in Hanoi. I was told a 6mth would be guaranteed...a 12 month maybe ..
I used a Hanoi based agent called Chapi Visa Services - Mr Nam. The guy is excellent. Speaks perfect English and takes customer service to a level not known in SEA.
He organised a letter of invitation from a company in VIetnam I am guessing saying she was coming to work for them.
I sent that to her and a visa on arrival form to fill out and she presented it at immigration when she arrived. I was told she would be paying $145.....she paid nothing due to her being Russian.
Cannot say how you would go as an American but if you want to contact Mr Nam he is on google...

Vietnam is looking to attract all those baby boomers who can no longer afford to live in the States or those adventurists just looking for that next place to hang out.Kampot Homesteader wrote:according the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh.... as a US citizen, i qualify for a one year, multiple entry Visa.

right... that must be it.
nothing to do with thousand of new us workers coming in from Halliburton, Chevron and Exxon to go after the oil.
or UPS and Ford and Time Warner that are getting into their telecom and manufacturing.
or that in 2016 the Internal Revenue Service raised the tax free deduction from income earned in Vietnam to over $100,000...
or the Lach Huyen Port or the fact we need a Navel Base in the South Pacific to keep an eye on China...
anyway...
went to the Vietnamese Embassy today and got a 1 year multiple entry in 15 minutes.
meanwhile... we are 15 months and tons of cash into getting a visitors visa for my wife.....next appointment in 2 weeks.
talk about your double standard..

Can concur. I paid 35 for application fee and another 135 for the visa. One year visa. I made a committment to leave the USA if Trump won and decided on Vietnam. Amy Schumer will soon follow. I hope chubby people can fit in those tunnels. I'm claustrophobic and don't want to get stuck.
