First time visit to Sihanoukville - Port area recommendations?
Hi,
Heading to Sihanoukville next week for some meetings around the Port area.
Looking for recommendations on the following:
- accommodation either near the Port or in the commercial/central area.
Old apartment style, larger rooms with a decent desk and space preferred, not after any high end places
- best way to travel from PP to Sihanoukville, bus recommendations etc.
- where can I rent a scooter - Honda Click 125 type of bike, for getting around while there. Usual price per day and requirements to rent?
- What are the larger supermarkets or food/wine suppliers/wholesalers in town?
Any advice appreciated. Be gentle, I think this may be my first post although joined a while back!

numerous places around town rent Honda Clicks/Airblades 125cc, you will be looking at 5-6$ per day depending on the age of the bike, if you want i can sort you out with a reliable quality company who ive used many times (renting per day/monthly)
best way to travel to SHV would be taxi - $45-55 depending on where you book and time of year takes around 4 hours
i often travel by big bus, Company - Sorya 168, around $6-7, mainly used by locals, the station is at Central Market (Psar Thmey) takes around 6 hours depending on the time (i usually get the 10am bus)

Update.
Thanks for all the replies - obviously my preferences weren't sorted as I didn't get any notifications of the replies and only saw them just now
In Sihanoukville now
Jamie_Lambo - found an excellent place to stay just under Victory Hill, 5 minutes motorbike ride from the port. Picked from a shortlist I put together on the usual booking sites, and was not let down. Owner even set up a desk for me to work from following a pre-arrival email to the hotel.
What is a tokalok shake? Totally intrigued.
Hired a bike, $5 a day. Knew in advance that the police are EVERYWHERE and I have been through at least 6 of their spots already. Have not been asked for money yet as I have a technique which has work thus far.
miguelito - Yes - only one post before this, but I live in Myanmar and work in some nearby countries so had only joined to browse the forums previously.
ricecakes - not setting up a business here. Just here for some meetings, I work in the commercial maritime sector. Local officials I have met with so far have been open, courteous and actually very helpful including pointing out one nearby police scamblock and when it operates
Jep - ??????????????????????????
Sihanoukville might as well be a Chinese border town. Was briefed about it, but still quite surprised by the extent of the recent Chinese influx
Travel - came here by minivan, was fine but only because I got a row of seats to myself, and they picked me up from my hotel in PP
Heading back by Giant Ibis, as the Bed Bus doesn't suit my times (11pm flight departure from PP)
All in all, a great first visit here

Thanks rc - good to get some info. Didn't meet Bun Chiv. Dealt with a local port agent and the immigration officers directly - was happy with their demeanor and help, couldn't have asked for more on my first visit there.
I bet there are some stories - send me a PM some time
Left Sihanoukville yesterday by Giant Ibis bus to PP. The halfway stop was f***ing brilliant, place called The Stop. Fresh hand made pies, great staff. Made the trip, until we hit PP traffic of course.
Once again, thanks to all who replied. Finally figured out what the Chicken Farm is without going there
By the way - where do I set up notifications for replies? Still haven't figured that one out yet.

Gotta love Cambodia. Government officials point out the scams of local police to OP.
Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
