fingerprints at Pochentong Int'l!
Surprised no outrage at this development...
This is the first country I have entered on the planet that has adopted the practice of monitoring identities that is traditionally used in booking a crime suspect- viz. I was fingerprinted upon entering the Kingdom. The airline did not mention this change. It was not optional. It appears I had four choices...
1. Do it under protest (and put myself on a shit list?)
2. Refuse to comply and be not permitted entry (and perhaps worse?)
3. Comply fully
4. Comply and wiggle my pinkies around
I heard that Amerika does this now, that everyone entering that nation is a suspected criminal. Any other nations?
Who paid for this - Australia? Would Ozzies support their government having its visitors being required to surrender to such treatment? And more interesting to me - if I tell the border guards to f*ck off (in different words of course) who pays for my airfare back to where I came from? I didn't agree to such a practice anymore than I would agree to being body searched or asked who I screwed the night before or what my political affiliation is.
Resist! Desist! Insist? I'm pissed!

They started doing this about two weeks ago.
They all do it now in Malaysia.
They were not doing it about three weeks ago in Vietnam, but that may change.

I love it!
When will they start doing residents who haven't been to the airport in years?
Hope schools start doing it soon.

Tips for Criminals 101.Nice!BirdBrain wrote:Enter Cambodia through a land border, I doubt they have the fingerprint scanners there. If they do I'm sure they can be circumvent for a small "express fee".
You do realise that by posting this you are advertising a way into Cambodia for people who most likely have criminal records? And you don't know what for?
How would you feel if your kids were at school here, got sexually abused by one of these guys you had helped get into the country illegally?
KiR, do you want this on your forum? I'm going to puke.

In Korea they use this data to check against the national police data base. Do the Cambodian police force have this technology? Its only of use if you've been arrested by the Korean police. If you have a record in your home country the system is useless. Of course to teach in Korea you need a CBR from your national police force to get a visa in the first place.vladimir wrote:I love it!

I have this funny feeling the fee will be reasonable to jump the queue or not have a photo taken. To avoid the scanner it might be unreasonable.BirdBrain wrote:Tips for anyone not wanting a government (lacking integrity) to keep a file on them. Where does this personal information gathering end? UM, Poipet has a very reasonable express fee. No need to stand in line, get your photo taken or even use the fingerprint scanner.

No, I doubt they know how to find fingerprints at a crime scene.

I'm not blind to what happens in this country. However, I would never post information on a public forum to assist criminals enter the country. I hope you're proud of your achievements. Do the Mods/Peter know about this?BirdBrain wrote:Tips for anyone not wanting a government (lacking integrity) to keep a file on them. Where does this personal information gathering end? Well done 440 for assisting, right?
I don't want to hear ONE more person bitching about paedophiles/ criminals on here. They get a lot of help from here, at least it seems that way. A while back people gave assurances they would help fight this bullshit. I don't see it happening.

Well Vladamir, because to pay to avoid fingerprinting suggests you have something to hide. The border guys are not that stupid to miss such a great cash cow.

The last time I visited the US was June 2004, and I can't remember them doing so.angsta wrote:I'm sure the U.S. did this is 2004.

I haven't noticed them doing so, I'm sure they know how to but they often let journalists invade the place before they even start "investigating."
I can't say I'm the slightest bit concerned about the authorities anywhere having my fingerprints, DNA, or a personal file on me, as I have absolutely nothing to hide.Tips for anyone not wanting a government (lacking integrity) to keep a file on them. Where does this personal information gathering end?
I have a feeling that he means that wanting to get through quickly is reasonable, while avoiding something like fingerprinting would arouse a lot more suspicion, and would cost a lot more to avoid. They'd make more money by busting someone who tried to avoid some check like that anyway in legal fees, etc because they most likely are hiding something serious. To avoid the scanner it might be unreasonable.
Why?

Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned: I did not use the sarcasm button. Duh! You think? And it's Vlad i mir. Just saying.Uncle Monty wrote:Well Vladamir, because to pay to avoid fingerprinting suggests you have something to hide. The border guys are not that stupid to miss such a great cash cow.
Paying doesn't suggest you have something to hide. It fucking confirms it. And the border guys might actually surprise you by arresting someone and not getting paid off.
In the meantime, let's give all the shit out there our expertise on how to get into a country and then bitch that Khmers are corrupt, right?
I'm beginning to really agree with Hanky's point of view, the Khmers are not the whole problem, some of the barangs are most of it.

Vladimir, let's hope the technology's a little better than that damned fingerprinting device I used to have to use at your place - I regularly went to clock-out from school there, only for the machine to tell me that I was you and that you were clocked out.
I'd hate to be stuck in a tin shed at the border or anywhere else because junk software and cheap Chinese parts said I was Jack the Ripper.
