Giant Ibis
A couple months ago I decided to head to Kampot and booked an ticket online through the Giant Ibis website. I showed up at the office in time and told staff that I had purchased a ticket online. They asked for the ticket. I said I bought it online. I have them my passport so they could check my name against any bookings they had received online. No luck. They wanted a printed ticket. Since I dont have a printer connected to my laptop - I could not print out anything at the time I made the booking. I offered to log on to their own computer and print out the ticket receipt from my email account....but their printer was not available for customers. I said well, I booked and paid for the ticket but you wont let me board the bus, so I want a refund. Denied. Really? So it seems that if you make an online booking with this company but MUST still present the printed receipt in order to board the bus. Seems wacked to me.
Other than the online booking insanity, it seems to get good reviews and offer a good service.

why didn't u just book at a travel agent?

Yeah, doesn't seem too unreasonable to have to show a ticket or something.Phuket2006 wrote:makes sense to me that they asked for a ticket. did u show them ur receipt number?
Maybe they could have been more helpful, but I wouldn't expect them to let all customers book online, show up with nothing and each come behind the counter to print off their tickets...
Changing the subject a little.Giant Ibis buses are shit.If you are sitting anywhere further back than rows 1 or 2 the rear suspension will rattle your bone all the way.

what did the website tell you to do after your purchase? anything? like "Print this ticket and bring it with you to the counter" or something (most do)?
Edit: from their website:
And from the Terms and Conditions you agreed to when you checked that box:

Sounds like the issue was your screw up, not theirs...Purchases tickets are non-refundable and non-reschedule

I used to be all about the front rows in the bus until a couple of years ago..Dutchie wrote: sitting anywhere further back than rows 1 or 2 the rear suspension
Basically, I left booking a Capitol bus to Battambang until the last minute. At 4pm they had no tickets available in my favoured front row. They told me to come back at 6:30pm to see if there were any last minute drop outs; there werent.
Decided to take the car instead.
About 10 kms shy of Battambang, there was a major traffic jam. Clearly an accident.
After waiting 25 minutes, I got out and walked, putting the wife in the drivers seat. There was the Capitol bus that I had tried to book. It had gone head on into another bus with such force that it had twisted the chassis off its' horizontal axis.
Rows 1 through 6 were totally devastated. Seats were dislodged from their anchor points. I saw my own death.
Thankfully the wife drove by as the traffic started to move and didnt get a close look.
So yeah, do yourself a favour and sit somewhere in the middle on Cambodian buses.

I traveled on Giant Ibis from PP to SR back in May. Frankly, I was quite impressed with their service except for the spotty WiFi. In fact, the only downside was the rude American bitch who talked loudly for the first three hours, making sure everyone could hear.

I like their buses but I also had an obnoxious American on on e of the trips. He insisted that the driver turned off the video as it was to violent and "not Khmer culture". We are talking Spiderman 3 here It was only when the other passengers, including his wife, told him to walk if he didn't like it that he relented.

I don't know. It seems that no airlines ever ask for the printed confirmation for an internet booking these days. Just walk up to check-in and show your passport.Phuket2006 wrote:makes sense to me that they asked for a ticket. did u show them ur receipt number?

In the case of a bus I would have thought that showing them the credit card should be sufficient.

Kampot Express buses are the way to go
i would say the exact opposite. i live in kampot and i am currently on a project in phnom penh so i commute. alot.
the kampot express buses are much older and in overall worse condition. add to that if you take the last bus out at 4:30... the driver tries to make up for lost time in p.p. traffic by driving like a complete idiot. plus they make stops along the way to pick up letters and to let people on and off. pretty ghetto. and i don't like the two price system. 5 for locals and 8 for everyone else.
the ibis is always clean and on time. just two days ago my girl and boy went back home and it turned out they where the only ticket sold. didn't matter. they went all the way to kampot with her and my son as the only passangers. rock stars.
i think they should change the way they off load all the luggage and pack packs before letting people off though. i see plenty of nervous travelers stuck in the back whilst everything they own is sitting outside on the curb. other than that i find it the best way to get back and forth if you are using a bus or a taxi.
Why, oh why, didn't I take the Blue pill?
