That sucks you had to wait, but it is pretty awesome that people are actually using the buses!prahocalypse now wrote:The next one was about 15 minutes, but it was standing room only. They're probably more crowded on a working day as a lot of students seem to use the buses.
It's also a cheap way to get to and from the airport if you don't have a lot of luggage.

I think the price is just right. For a lot of people, saving 2 or 3,000r a day on motos makes a big difference.MekongMouse wrote:That sucks you had to wait, but it is pretty awesome that people are actually using the buses!prahocalypse now wrote:The next one was about 15 minutes, but it was standing room only. Something else I noticed is that if you want to change from one bus route to another bus route, the ticket seller will call the other bus on his walkie-talkie when you are close to the bus stop where the routes meet to see how close it is.

They are now building bus shelters...not sure if every bus stop will get one but at least on line 01, there are a few of them.
On line 03, I saw people taking measures the other day at a bus stop.
Looking good! Next thing will be dedicated lines for coaches only (ah ah ah)

Why would I care? I'm Khmer
Back in July I thought I saw a city bus but assumed I was seeing things. Then I saw a bus stop with a nice bench and map. This month I've been in Thailand and have read a few articles about the city busses now operating in pp.
Has anyone tried them, and if so what are your thoughts? I return to pp on Tuesday and have read one goes to the airport but I don't remember seeing the airport on the map at the bus stop I saw. Any information on this would be a great help as I'm always at the mercy of the moto dops outside the airport. I live in BKK1 near the Senate compound and nobody ever knows where it is so it is always a pain to set a price for a ride. If I can bypass the process I am interested.
Thanks for any information

I took it once 8 month ago don't remember how much maybe 1000~2000riel. The bus was straight out from a Korean junkyard barely working. Small bus the ac not working properly. The map showed a loop but halfway the driver stopped and asked all people to go out. After 5min and no bus in sight I took a taxi. Never took it again. I guess for a short commute can be OK tough.

There are 3 routes and the fare is a flat 1500 riel. I haven't been able to find large scale bus maps, so have photographed the route maps at the bus stops. Unfortunately the buses don't have english destination signs and the maps don't have numbers, so some help from a Khmer might be needed at the night market. The bus stops seem to be on google maps. The buses are very comfortable when not crowded.
As you can see, they are not aimed at tourists.
EDIT- The maps (not the buses) don't have numbers.
This bus starts at the night market and goes to the airport.
starts at Chbar Ampouv (across the Monivong Bridge) to Russey Keo. thanks PSD_Kiwi
Night Market to Takmao

^ The second map you posted shows the route which starts at Chbar Ampouv (across the Monivong Bridge) to Russey Keo.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
I ride the number 1 route quite often. I like the buses. They go quickly and are rarely crowded. The aircon is superb and the staff are helpful. The worst part is waiting for one, typical wait time is 10-15 minutes. As stated, the fare is 1500 riel. They don't give change.

I got one for novelty value when the service stated a year or so back. The aircon worked well, especially at the back of the bus. It doesn't really run any route that is much use to me, but it's a step forward and if it picks up it could help alleviate some of the congestion on the streets.
