I have an ACER 35a PDA with has reasonable good GPS coverage of Thailand - very useful for driving around as you don't have to figure out the local language sign posts. I have tested it out the back of boons and it's 90% accurate - some roads missing or my position marker some 5m away from the actual carriageway - this used to happen with a top flight GPS DVD system I had in Europe so it's not country specific - changes take time to filter through.
Does anyone know if there is similar coverage for Cambodia?

GPS Map coverage in Cambodia
Can you give me a bit more information? What GPS are you using, and what software is running on your PDA?anim8ed wrote:I have an ACER 35a PDA with has reasonable good GPS coverage of Thailand - very useful for driving around as you don't have to figure out the local language sign posts. For example, there is "Garmin Mobile" which allows Garmin GPS to work with PDAs like they do with map capable units. Alternatively, if you are using a different GPS, they will have a different software system, or there are standalone software systems...
The PDA is the Acer N35 - it has an inbuilt GPS receiver. The map software is the PowerMap V7 Thailand, information http://www.aitsnav.com/aits_website/powermap.htmlArunadude wrote: What GPS are you using, and what software is running on your PDA?
I also use ogps for data logging - used for the www.openstreetmap.org project.
Thanks in advance.

Hi anim8ed, sorry I didn't get back to you. Unfortunately, we can't do anything with this one, it is a different proprietary system. I like the www.openstreetmap.org project, good idea. But doubt it will get much populated from Cambodia any time soon.anim8ed wrote:The PDA is the Acer N35 - it has an inbuilt GPS receiver. Hi Tsunku, yes, we have an electronic map of Cambodia on an SD card. You can go to our office at 417Eo Preah Sisowath Blvd. to get it installed. It costs $300 plus 10% VAT ($200 plus VAT if you buy the unit from us).Tsunku wrote:I have a iQue M5 which takes an SD card, is it possible to get an electronic map of Cambodia on a SD card anywhere here?
Is there any PDA navigation out there for Cambodia? Is it cheaper to buy a Garmin legend (assuming it has the Cambodian data).Arunadude wrote:Unfortunately, we can't do anything with this one, it is a different proprietary system.
It looks as though I will be in Snooky later this week ... maybe I have to be first in with the openstreetmap tracks (again - did the first Thai one ... problem though with Asian countries is how to name streets - in Thai or English: I discovered the mapping software supports the Thai font but the renderer doesn't ).

You can buy a Garmin bluetooth GPS and it comes with the PDA navigation solution along with our map and that will work on any PDA/Phone. Don't remember the prices, you'd have to ask at the shop.anim8ed wrote:Is there any PDA navigation out there for Cambodia? Transliteration of names is always a nightmare. They actually DO have an official system for it here, but like usual the system doesn't match with what people generally use and so confuses things rather than helps. No easy way to resolve these things.
Arunadude thxs for your reply, I went to your offices a few days ago and bought the Cambodia SDCard map. I was very surprised by how much information is on it I thought it would just be Phnom penh but all the couty and roads are on it. We are going to K. Chhnang for Khmer news years and I will be taking my m5 with me to help !
Glad you like it.Tsunku wrote:Arunadude thxs for your reply, I went to your offices a few days ago and bought the Cambodia SDCard map. We were also working on a manual for Khmer wives. But after I wrote the line "do what you're told" I couldn't come up with any other relevant material...
