You need to tell the taxi driver what stops you expect him to make and then agree on the fare for making those stops. You don't just tell him the furthest destination, agree on a price, and then expect him to make multiple stops for multiple passengers for that price.
The airport taxi tickets actually say "one stop only" on them, they have for years, I suspect they ran into a number of people trying it on like this.

I'm sure I did all that Gav & he understood, and he agreed. But you are right, it does say one stop only - I took that to mean that one passenger doesn't go to the riverside and one more to the Russian market all for $7. But he was applying a more literal understanding. I suppose I'm lucky he didn't charge me extra for stopping at traffic lights.
Sounds fair if it is really paid per stop, and not per destination. Never come across this one however, could be a good deal if your going a long way.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:I've never encountered it bgavinmac wrote:That's not a scam, that's how fixed rate taxis work everywhere in the world.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:There is another kind of scam from the Tuktuk boys.
Apparently the 7$ is for one stop only. Even if the first stop is on the way to the second stop.
I told them the furthest destination and he agreed the price - there was 2 of us and my friends house was on the way to mine.
When we stopped to let him out the driver said to me 'now I go back or you pay me $7 more'.
I told him 'now you go to my house as you agreed or I pay you nothing'
There was a bit of an angry impasse until I told him I would call the company to complain.
I could understand if it was a circuitous route, but the taxi didn't even have to leave the road it was travelling on.
So, to apply that logic, if I get a fixed rate taxi and want to stop at an ATM mid route to pick up money I need to pay double fare?

After he gives the right change, take a picture of him and walk off. Someone should definitely tattle on them. I wonder where one should actually tattle : the guys at the fingerprint station (or perhaps they all get a cut?), or the Anti Corruption unit? It would be easily curbed by putting a simple sign with a price list.

Things cost more than they used to!?!logos wrote:Add the tuktuk scam. A couple years ago you got a car downtown when you wanted to book a ride at the airport exit booth. Now the $7 (?) gives you a tuktuk.
What a scam!

scumbags, when i went through there they tossed the passports back when returning them without saying anything or giving eye contact as the waiting tourists stand around and watch. very uncomfrotable, but also kind of funny in a weird way.
also got asked outright for money in pp airport immigration for a loose visa which had come partially unglued from the page as a result of heat. this by ranking officers out in public, not the desk clerk. scumbags, makes you feel a bit better about their financial plight. many actually deserve the miniscule wages they get.

You can piss off with your sanctimonious bullshit. If you don't like the nonsense in cambodia then go back to Thailand or Vietnam.Metal1982 wrote:scumbags, when i went through there they tossed the passports back when returning them without saying anything or giving eye contact as the waiting tourists stand around and watch. very uncomfrotable, but also kind of funny in a weird way.

Nothing about their low salaries makes me feel better about myself.

Not sure what your psych stuff means, but I did return to thailand, am there now and like it much better, especially airport immigration. I just wish the visa was as easy!0zirC wrote:You can piss off with your sanctimonious bullshit.
