i have heard that you are now only allowed 2 land crossings into thailand a year. for a free visa.
thailands website says that they are no longer issuing 30 day visas upon arrival by land, but instead 15 days.
nothing about 2 a year.
they also recommend getting a visa in advance but no information regarding the time or cost.
i have gone back and forth from cambodia to thailand twice in the past 3 months and would like to know if the next visit will require me to fly or get a visa prior to travel from the thai embassy here in cambodia.
anyone know the facts?
i carry a us passport with 1 year visa in cambodia.
thanks k440

my understanding is 2 X 30 day non-visa entries per calendar year irrespective of if it is by land or air.
had one already now on tourist visas from vientiane.

With a USA passport you should get 30 days visa exemption at land crossings.
All G7 countries get that, everybody else (Asian excepted) get 15.
Yes, only 2 free land crossings in 12 months are now allowed.
As far as I am aware it is still an unlimited number by air..
However I have also heard of quite close scrutiny/questioning being applied to people with a large number of
visa exempt & Tourist visas on arrival at airports.
Immigration's intension is to make sure that you are not working in Thailand illegally & that you have sufficient
funds to support yourself, so the queries are based along those lines..

If you leave and re-enter by the same border crossing, you will only get 15 day if on a VOA. Was gonna mention what bunch of cunts there are at the 2nd Friendship crossing on the Thai side, but then that would change the topic.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

I travel in and out of Thailand a lot on my way between Cambo and Oz, usually staying for a couple of days to a week to spend times with friends.
I like to cross by land but the two entries is a restriction for me.
I have entered 4 times by air this year and once by land and have another 6 plus entries to Thailand already booked for the remainder of the year but like others said too many entries and they may start to get annoying.
Hence I have just applied for and have apparently been granted a Retirement Visa, so no limit on entries and exits.
However it was posted the other day on a next day delivery service. But as at the end of Friday my brand new passport has not turned up and I have tracked it to a mail centre. It is making me nervous as no mail delivery on Saturday and I fly to Singapore on Tuesday. Monday could be interesting.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

I'm about to fly in for my second time this month, and I don't know, 5th or 6th time for the year. I also sailed in once, don't get me started about their incompetence regarding that. But the water entry notwithstanding, I haven't so much as raised an eyebrow. I'm sure some posters have been there 10+ times already this year (slavedog comes to mind).
