I didn't see any a few days ago. Here's a tip. I walked into the hall about 2 hours and 15 minutes before departure. Air Asia check in counter wasn't open and the monitors weren't showing which number counter they would be using. I neurotically scanned all the counters, looked at which ones were being used by other airlines, which ones seemed to have branded stanchions or cardboard cutouts for other airlines, and determined that there was a good chance Air Asia would be using the empty counters on the far left, counters 1-3.ali baba wrote:I didn't see any when I flew with them 3 weeks ago.
So I hovered over there until T minus 2:00 and saw that there was dude setting up behind one of those counters wearing a red Air Asia lanyard around his neck. A few us us got the idea to line up there, they started checking folks in, and at that moment, roughly 100 Chinese/Malaysian/Cambodian folks got up from the seating areas and formed a rather impressive line behind us.
I think the best strategy is to get there just over 2 hours early or wait and just show up an hour before your flight. If you show up at 1:55 or 1:30 before your flight, that's when you hit the lines.

You could use the online check-in with a smartphone, they send you an email where you can do that easy,
and so use the luggage drop off counter, they will issue a boarding pass as well, even if you have no luggage.

I agree, check in online, but the bag drop counter is often just as long as the regular check in counterbusinessclass wrote:You could use the online check-in with a smartphone, they send you an email where you can do that easy,

That's very wise thinking.
Did you get to your destination before any of the other passengers on the plane ?

Hopefully at some point in the near future we'll be allowed to use mobile boarding passes or print out tickets in Phnom Penh.
When flying out of KL back here on AirAsia, even if you print out your ticket, or use the kiosk check-ins, I have been sent back to the ticket window for "document verification". However, if I check-in using the AirAsia mobile ap, then I am allowed through without a problem. So, I recommend using the ap (obviously doesn't matter in PP yet).

No I had lunch at Metro and visited the lounge and avoided standing in a 30 minute line.Duncan wrote:

That's a shame. I only travel with carry on and quite often exceed the 7 kilo limit. So far I have never been charged extra due to luck mostly as they often just eyeball my bag or don't ask to weigh it but going via self checkin and printing your own boarding pass eliminates any risk. I have done this in both Singapore and VN and it also takes just a few minutes as opposed to standing in line for up to half an hour.
Oh well. Maybe one day.

I usually arrive about 2 hours early, when the first rush is over, here the luggage drop off line is usually empty, and people who try to cheat using it for normal check-ins are strictly denied. I think they are into promoting the online check-in as it saves on manpower in the end. I don't think you have to worry about carry-on exceeding 7kg in general. Most of the planes are not filled to the brim, and so able to ignore the rules to accommodate overall passenger satisfaction. I agree that avoiding the main check-in line is preferable, nothing's worse than having some pushy, impatient, overly tattooed, greying and balding middleaged anger issued wifebeater wearing sexpat with a pair of 2000 riel sunglasses, kissing his skank goodbye, right, behind you. Ot that group of self observing provocative loudmouth backpackers showing off their sunburns in tights, right in front of you, slowing down the line for everyone. No thanks

I recently flew to KL on Malaysian Air. To my excitement, I could check-in online, and was given a mobile boarding pass, and instructed to proceed to the gate. It was the same mobile pass I've used at KLIA to come here, so I thought that PNH had finally figured out how to do it.Miguelito wrote:Hopefully at some point in the near future we'll be allowed to use mobile boarding passes or print out tickets in Phnom Penh.

So I walked in, straight to the escalator, and presented my mobile pass. They guy looked at me like I was an idiot, and sent me to the check in counter. At the counter I asked the woman about it, and she said that not everyone has been trained on it, but the next time I flew it would work. Of course, "next time" is a very arbitrary time frame, but all of the technology is in place, and airlines are ready, so it's just time for Cambodia Airports to step up and implement it.

All my flights lately have been with Malaysia Air as they (believe it or not) are now cheaper than Air Asia. Another good point is, you don't finish up at that shit hole KLIA 2 !!!

Much better customer service (especially comes in handy if you need to change flights), earn OneWorld points, more legroom, tv screens, free checked luggage to 30 kg, no fighting for overhead compartment, meals on board, business class available, and yes, KLIA is better than KLIA2.Biker wrote:All my flights lately have been with Malaysia Air as they (believe it or not) are now cheaper than Air Asia.
