Nice rice
Nice rice
I'm in Mai Chau, Vietnam and yes..you guessed it. Amazeballz.
Picture a landlocked archipelago where the islands are limestone spires and the ocean is flatbed valley floors of the most verdant rice field you've ever seen.
The town itself is clean, quiet and organized. Postcard one might say. The food is delicious everywhere we go and the people are helpful and smiling.
Probably one of the most picturesque places ive seen in South East Asia.

Well, this is the fourth time or so you've said a particular area was the most amazing one in SEA. I wonder what you'll discover next to top Mai Chau. One thing you can say about the Vietnamese though is that they don't waste a single square meter of land. Everything is cultivated, including areas under overpasses and electrical pilons. Industrious folk...

I was there back in January, cunt of a mountain to cycle over , not once but twice. Didn't think too much of the place , okay but not as good as the area around Nhim Binh a little further north.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
I've said places are nice. Not the nicest. I 'll edit the OP so you can unbunch your panties.LexusSchmexus wrote:Well, this is the fourth time or so you've said a particular area was the most amazing one in SEA. Great pictures, what kind of camera are you using?

If you liked this then check out Konglor valley in South Laos on the Thaket loop, less population , harder to get to , but more than just one scene, not as touristy and a cave as well.

Mai Chau is not very touristy. No western restaurants at all. No bars. Just a couple of guesthouses and the odd whitey. I think I'll check out nimbinh at your suggestion next. I have some fishing rods coming and I'm keen to load up the scooter and flick some lures into these rural rivers.

Mai Chau not touristy! The whole village is nothing but back packer homestays , just about every house is one and every house has a fake loom and is selling Made in China scarves on the ground floor. There are also about a dozen up market eco-lodges catering to the French Flash packer type. However, Ninh Binh is also very touristy and if you have yer own wheels I'd stay in the town rather than in Tam Coc or Trang An . There are also plenty of hideaway chalet style resorts out in the rice fields too. Cycling heaven for me.
