Siem Reap has the "World's Best Hotel" according to TA
If it is pretty good it is certainly pretty cheap.
wonder if they paid for that ridiculous accolade.Hanno wrote:It is a nice hotel, but best in the world?????

LOL: good joke
for sure best in SR and possibly Cambodia ,but not even close to the best in SE asia
( $135/night wont get you a broom closet in the following hotels)
Oriental in Bangkok
Peninsula in HK
E & O in Penang
Raffels in Singapore
JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Phuket

Seems to be best rated hotel rather than best hotel
Which would make sense. If you are spending a grand a night you may have different expectations than if you are spending $135 a night and will rate accordingly.

Hanno, what do you think the best hotel in Siem Reap is?Hanno wrote:It is a nice hotel, but best in the world?????
I really like the Belmond - 5 star luxury with local character, unlike some of the other generic 5 stars where you could be anywhere in the world.
The FCC would be my pick from charm, historical pov. Went to Raffles Grand Angkor for a look about 12 years ago and quite plush, though wasn't staying there. At that time the best suite there was $1300/night.

Don't even look at the basic Amansara prices... and at least the Raffles has character.kinard wrote:The FCC would be my pick from charm, historical pov. Belmond is very nice. I still think Victoria is up there, as is Shimani. FCC is overrated IMHO, the rooms are more like a 2-star.Miguelito wrote:Hanno, what do you think the best hotel in Siem Reap is?Hanno wrote:It is a nice hotel, but best in the world?????

Seems like a really odd choice to me. Shinta seem to win plenty of awards in their category.
