What about a bridge hammock rather than a tent? Dont think i could sleep in a regular hammock. Asians could sleep on a clothes line, but not me. Sciatica and anglo saxon inflexibility.
i wanna know if it's possible to cycle from Mae Sot, Thailand, through Myanmar and into India at the Moreh border. You used to be able to pay $100 to go into that restricted area via only 2 travel agents, but not sure now what with the Rohingya stuff etc. Hoping $$ will prevail.

Not possible, I enquired, also had a mate who tried to enter Burma but because he had a visa for India they wouldn't let him in.
I also met a guy who is walking around the world. He entered Burma on a bus from India and walked a little way around Burma allthe time being followed by the same two plain clothes policemen, after ten days they forced him onto a bus and deported him to Thailand.

This couple did the trip across Myanmar all the way back in 2014. Things are much more open and relaxed now no?horace wrote:Not possible, I enquired, also had a mate who tried to enter Burma but because he had a visa for India they wouldn't let him in.

Myanmar has only just recently opened it’s land borders to international tourists, and at the same time relaxed it’s rules on tourism. This has led to a bit of a boom in tourism, whereby infrastructure sometimes isn’t keeping up with demand. You can now stay in almost all hotels, and pass through more regions in Myanmar than has been possible in recent times, especially on a bicycle.
You may have read my diaries about cycling through in Myanmar in 2008. Back then it required lots of arguing with immigration officials, cycling at night to pass checkpoints and really long days (200km!) in order to find hotels that would allow international tourists. Nowerdays, all of that has changed!

land boarders have been open between Thailand and Myanmar for a long time, at least as far back as 2012 when i first used them. Have read a few stories by bikers that crossed FROM India thru Myanmar to Thailand, but they were Indians
Only a few areas ( parts of Rakhine & Shan states) and cities are now closed
Still cant travel from Kentung to Taunggyi unless paying for a tour
Route i really want to do, ( but impossible) is from Lashio to Bhamo and than up to Myitkyina

I'm sure that barang can now travel to Kawkareik in Karen state, which a few years ago was a definite no go. The road from Myawaddy to Kawkareik evidently used to be dangerous what with all the vehicles going off the cliffs, but i think they've built a new highway now.
I get the impression it ain't North Korea.
Not sure about potatoes though.

Everything I wrote is 2017 and 2018 , so no, things are not more relaxed now. However, if you do manage it please let me know, cheers.
