Would like some tips or references on potential 'out of the way temples' that may be out there for my next bike trip. I have visited the obvious: Angkor, Preah Vahear, Koh Ker.
If there are some hidden gems that are tucked away in some dusty Oddar Meanchey backwater - I would love to know. I have ckecked some sites but doesn't give much information.
Thanks in advance.
Out of the way temples
If you want some smaller and completely deserted places, just take a look on google maps and you'll find a bunch. The closer to town and the bigger they are you will still see tourists, like at Bakong & Preah Ko, or Chaw Srei Vibol, but then get to a place like Prasat Beng Mealea and there's a chance you have it to yourself. Head out to Prasat Preah Khan Kampong Svay, or Banteay Ampil Temple, and they're all yours for enjoying.
Just note that even though you may stumble into very out of the place, tiny ruins, there will still be a guard around somewhere that will ask for your pass at some point.

Here a few suggestions of places to cycle around Siem Reap. Not necessarily temples but something of interest to be seen!
Siem Reap – Western Baray – Phnom Krom – Siem Reap (46km). A few small temples near Western Baray but nothing wow.
Siem Reap – Baray temples – Siem Reap (60km) – even more insignificant temples on the north side of Western Baray. I mostly found a few random names on Google Earth. They weren’t much more than a pile of bricks.
Siem Reap – Kompong Khleang stilted village – Siem Reap (110km). A long one using the main NH6 on the way there and then a countryside route on the way back.
Siem Reap – Chau Srei Vibol – Banteay Amphil – Siem Reap (76km). CSV is one of my favourites temple ‘off the beaten track’. You do need an Angkor Pass to visit. Not sure if anyone is checking at Banteay Amphil as I haven’t been for a while.
Siem Reap – Chau Srei Vibol – Roluos temples – Siem Reap (61km) – In case the above is a bit much
Siem Reap – Lolei Temple – Bakong Temple – Siem Reap (40km) – Done using mostly countryside routes both ways (i.e. not NH6!)
Siem Reap – Boeung Pearring – Siem Reap (32km). A nice lake with good bird spotting organized by the local community.
Siem Reap – Beng Mealea – Koh Ker (114km one way). This is a very long day. And a bit of a killer as the last half has some incline. If you try worth having 2 nights at Koh Ker so the temples can be visited at a slow pace.
Siem Reap – Perng Tanann – Siem Reap (131km). Another bloody long slog. It’s the place with strange rock formations that Khmer like to go and take selfies. Most of this route was on paved road. Paved road with ridiculous number of potholes and plenty of trucks to contend with.
Siem Reap – Phnom Bok – Siem Reap (51km) – Very nice countryside route. There is a ticket control at Phnom Bok but I’ve been there early morning before and no one in sight
You can tell I have a nerdy database of cycling rides so let me know if you need more info!
