Not sure where you are atm, but I've found that if your SIM is from the North East you're "roaming" when you bit mainland India, and vice versaspitthedog wrote:Cheers,
The internet on my phone now doesnt seem to work without data roaming on.
Any ideas why that is?
Normal?

So if i'm constantly using data roaming then a 1 month data plan likely wont last 1 month??Starving Pelican wrote:Not sure where you are atm, but I've found that if your SIM is from the North East you're "roaming" when you bit mainland India, and vice versaspitthedog wrote:Cheers,

Thus it's more economical to buy a new sim card in every state you visit so one can turn of roaming?

Back to the roads. Assam roads are like developed country roads compared to Manipur snd Nagaworld where they look like they have been carpet bombed. Cycling on Manipur roads is actually mountain biking.
Crossing into Assam the faces are much darker and Indian looking. Much more Hindu here. Groups of people tend to form around you and stare in Assam.
In Manipur and Nagaworld they look more Chinese than Indian. I should imagine YaTingPom might like those 2 state. Can get a chow mein and steamed dumplings no probs. No sea and sand though, but loads of dust.
Food is getting better the more you get away from the myanmar border i reckon. Think it might be the muslim influence. Muslims dont like Myanmar state.
All of the army near the border is because of the Christian insurgents who want an independent state i think.
One Christian in Manipur told me the place is neglected because its Christian, whereas a Hindu in Assam told me that its because of the insurgents.
Need blankets of a night. Hands were actually trembling from the cold in the hills in Dusty Manipur.
Lodging is shit here and actually very scarce in the small towns. Stayed in the only lodge in Manga the other night. My girlfriend called me into the bathroom where the toilet resembled the one out of Trainspotting so changed to a room with Bettel nut spit spray stains down the walls and what looked like 10 years worth of dirt encrusted on the ceiling fan blades.
Discovered the PWD resthouses which are much better. Some dont like taking on the risk of housing foriegners though.
2 families let us stay the night when there was no accomodation. Friends on Facebook now.
We have found that people are much more open in the poorer countries we have visited on our tour. Myanmar , Laos and now NE India for example. There is an innocence about them. We camped most of the time during our stay in Laos as it was all countryside and generally no one sees you, or and they are so easy going. Didnt get a feel for camping in Myanmar for some reason. Camped alot in Issan aswell. Laos guesthouse rooms in the sticks always seemed to have something wrong with them and camping gave you freedom of where you wanted to stay.
Need to put my hands under the blankets for abit to warm up.

Do you think that could make a 28 day data plan last 13 days?
From what i've read Jio dont have roaming charges, whereas Airtel has voice roaming charges or something.
Some pics from the road that runs along the border in Myanmar.
Who rights the road signs!?
Rape? Divorce?
