Hello,
Thai expat coming soon for the first time to PP for a new Visa / R&R and will be staying for 4 or 5 nights. Wanted others opinion on best hotels near the River / Nightlife / and somewhat close to the Thai Embassy. Hotel/s with Air, T.V, hot water & perhaps small fridge and in the range of $20 to $30 usd would be fine.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Good Hotels in PP - $25 usd.?
River Star puts you right on the river for 25 to 30 bucks. Close to all the breakfast joints and you can basically walk home from a bunch of bars nearby.
New York hotel is right off of Monivong close to the Central market so you can go South or North quite easily.
Or you can do the Thai ex-pat thing and hang out at Flamingos. I've never stayed there but really, I haven't heard anything bad about it. Does anybody know if they have in-room safes?

FFS, give the guy a break. It's not as if all expats in Cambodia are shining beacons of virtuousness.
Apart from Koastal's suggestion you might want to check out the guesthouses on the riverside, e.g. Hope & Anchor or Pickled Parrot. Lots of cheapish hotels catering to locals and other Asians on Monivong, e.g. Asia Palace, Asia or Mittapheap.
I have no clue where the Thai embassy is but I have heard Phnom Penh isn't the best place to get a Thai visa, I'd be interested to know how it goes.

Koastal,
I had a peek at the website and it looks more like a shitty backpacker guesthouse than a proper hotel. You can get a decent room with a hotel feel (as per the OP's requirements) for $30.
I would suggest Cara Hotel near Wat Phnom but I think the price is a tad over $30 though not much more. Great place though.

Don't believe everything you read on the web, my fine feathered friend. I usually stay at Dara Reang Say and find it clean, comfortable, and pleasant. For aircon, fridge, hot water shower, and tv it runs about $18. The restaurant does cheap and tasty asian food, and I usually only see two or three backpackers when I'm there. Room service is quick, which is good when you're bringing me my first cup of coffee in the morning, and I've yet to stay in a room there that doesn't have a window. It's also only about three blocks from the riverside.Starving Pelican wrote:Koastal,

By contrast, I've stayed in other hotels that were $30-40 a night, dirty, things didn't work, and my wife was treated like a whore.
I didn't even mean you, your post actually sounded ok, if very Aussiekoastal wrote:It should be pointed out that my response is a stock standard one that gets wheeled out when this ?? is asked . Not intended to offend and not personal. I just like DARAREANGSAY.SunSan wrote:FFS, give the guy a break

All rooms in the Flamingos Hotel have safes, but the safes are rather small. They will hold money, passport, even a normal sized digital camera, but they are too small for a laptop computer. The wifi internet in the rooms works rather well. I've never had a problem there. It is also generally quiet.
