Non teaching opportunities foreigners in Cambodia?
Hello, my name is Robert and I'm new to this forum. My good friend and I currently work in China, but we are both looking to work in Cambodia. I looked through the current jobs posts and I noticed that a lot of them require that you are a Cambodian native or can speak Khmer. Is it possible to get a job as a citizen from the USA, that can't speak Khmer? We can speak a decent amount of Mandarin Chinese. We are mainly interested in looking into consulting, logistics and quality assessment inspector positions throughout the country, preferably in the capitol. We both have experience with consulting and teaching English, but we don't want to teach English anymore. I also have a couple years experience as a quality control manager for a company in southern California. I hope to hear from the expats on here that really know the Cambodian job market well, so we know where to look and what to focus on.
Yes, of course there are opportunities here. Don't be mislead by the number of teachers on 440 . . while there are many teachers in Cambodia, there are also many many westerners doing other types of jobs: management positions, NGO workers, business owners, accountants, lawyers etc etc. You just have to get yourself here and search out the opportunities.
Or come and marry a rich Cambodian girl. Loads of them in PP, and they love to have these lovely white babies.
Or marry a poor to middle class girl and still just sponge off her and have her pay for everything.

Bongthom.com has a lot of job postings. If you know anything about construction you might be in luck.

I was doing some research on NGO work opportunities. Are most of these volunteer type jobs that are non profit or do a lot of them pay? I read that a lot are working for humanitarian causes like helping with infrastructure, rescuing children from prostitution and things like this? I also read that they are sometimes met with controversy from the locals and government at times. Would getting an NGO job be safe, pay a comfortable salary and be easy to get without a lot of previous experience in the field?

This idea should definitely be a side project of mine while I'm looking for work there. Where do all these hot rich women hangout in the big city? Any particular locations where they hunt for potential white husbands? ...and here I thought all of them just wanted to spend foreigners' money. There are actually sugar momma's there?

No idea, I'm sorry. I don't work for them myself. I suspect the answer to your question is yes and no and sometimes . . .
I believe Jacked Camry is big in the NGO world. You might try PM-ing him.
There are huge opportunities here, some people in the building industry are making shitloads, But as an outsider, forget it.

I believe some NGO's pay pretty well. I also believe it is a hard club to get into.

Yes exactly! It sure seems that way. I was looking at bongthom.com and most of the good jobs all require that you are of Cambodian decent or that you can speak Khmer. I wonder if foreigners have scored non teaching jobs in Cambodia using this site. It almost seems that the site was made for bi-lingual Cambodians to hunt for work...
