Ah, just a fortysomething year old Irishman who doesn't like bars or drugs or whores and moved to Cambodia for the temples.
Handing resumes in to the factory schools
Jesus man. Are you looking in to my kitchen right now with a telescope Jason Bourne style?
And for the record. Yep i did hook up with a bar girl on my first night here. I thought i got a great deal at 50 for around 2 hours but apparently i got ripped off! It was only a once off though. The sex drive ain't too high anymore when you get to my age.

If they were expecting Gary Glitter, then give it a whirl. Why not? A change in tactics may change your luck.Corkman42 wrote:Jesus man. Are you looking in to my kitchen right now witth a telescope Jason Bourne style?

Easily avoided. Don't go to sleep with a ladyboy.Corkman42 wrote:haha. No. I came over here with about 2500. The rest is tied up back home. Not into the drugs or the bar scene which i find is depressing over here. Hookers seem nice though but i have a fear of waking up with a ladyboy.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Corkman42, if you want to help others, you could post more specifics about your ordeal. Like: Where are you staying and how much is it? How are you getting around town, and how much are spending? Where are you eating, and how much? Etc. Also, where did you get your info about teaching here? I just did a quick search and found this: http://www.teflasia.com/region-guides/cambodia/.
Maybe sharing and helping others understand the realities of finding a teaching job here will help your karma and the universe will smile upon you... or some other bollocks.
Good luck!
This info is obviously quite dated as Boeung Kak Lake is long gone, and so are those rents.Meals
Budget meals are US$0.50-2.
Mid-range for US$2-5.
High for US$6-10.
Deluxe for US$11+
Accommodation
Overnight
Budget: US$2-10. In Phnom Penh head for Boeung Kak Lake, the local equivalent of Bangkok’s Kao San Road. Low end accommodation is not quite as readily available in Siem Reap.
Mid-range: US$10-45.
High: US$50-70.
Deluxe: US$70+
Long term
For around US$100 a month, you can get a 2 bedroom apartment with kitchen. Prices are higher in the centre of Phnom Penh and in Siem Reap where demand is higher.
Houses are large and easy to come by, often starting around US$300 a month. A one month deposit is standard, although more may be requested. Estate agencies will assist in finding accommodation.
Maybe sharing and helping others understand the realities of finding a teaching job here will help your karma and the universe will smile upon you... or some other bollocks.

Well i pay about 230 a month right now (bills all inclusive) for a nice big room in an apartment close to the Olympic Stadium. I've been trying to spend more on street food as you can get that for a dollar or 2 per meal buts its very hit and miss. A Cambodian version of the Big Mac meal from Lucky Burger is about 5 bucks. You can get a small pizza and coke from Dominoes for 3.50. From the time ive been here i reckon you could easily live in Cambodia for about 600 dollars a month if you were sensible with your cash. (If your taking trips to Sinaunokville or Siem Reap etc then will be a bit extra on top). And it doesn't mean living like a hermit either. You could easily head out 1-2 nights a week and get shitfaced too. Now obviously if you have drink/drug issues or a penchant for bar girls then its going to cost a lot more per month. But i reckon 500-600 a month could do you easily in Cambodia.

230 for accommodation leaves you 300 for food, transport, medical, entertainment.Corkman42 wrote:Well i pay about 230 a month right now (bills all inclusive) for a nice big room in an apartment close to the Olympic Stadium. Maybe you could do it some months - but sounds pretty miserable.
I guess you are discounting one off costs like visa, work permit, health insurance... that could easily add another $150 to your monthly costs.
