Muscle knot
Got one in my lower back that's as hard as a Cambodian beef steak. Put my back out years ago. I've been using one of those wooden pestles that they use to make som tam and that really free's me up for awile, but eventually stiffens up again. It affects my knees when jogging.
Any creams i can buy? Heat packs?
Cheers.

Small electric heat "pillows" are available at local markets for about $6.
You could also try acupuncture. I never believed in that "voodoo" till I tried it. The Korean guy I went to used to be near the Russian Market, but I think he moved. His name is Dr. Kim. Phone (not sure it's current) 012620210. Maybe someone else has more current info. 20 years of chronic neck pain cleared up in 9 visits over 2 months.

when you have managed to loosen it, you need to work on strengthening the muscles that oppose it and the ones supporting it. So focus on your core for starters.
There's a guy that does remedial massage in PP (used to be anyway) who would help you identify the other areas that need to be worked on, to help support the problem area, and deal with the knock on effect to your knees. Ligaments have probably been stretched from the time you put your back out and so you need to build the muscles more to help counter the ligament issue.

Khmers heat up banana tree stems by placing hot stones in them, then apply these to area.
I also have lower back pains, buy some Mobic 7.5mg, it works wonders for me
Also, try alternating ice packs/heat
Exercise will also help.
I'm recovering from a hamstring injury, it was very painful when I pulled it.

Thanks people. Yeah, i was strengthening certain muscles for many many (sigh) months with no joy. The cook hip lift, the fugging plank, fugging crunches , hip flexor stretches. Tried them all. I've never done them after massage though so i'll give that a go. I'll look for those heat pillows. The muscle feels abit dead to the touch.
I reckon its pulled my hamstrings tight so where they feel like they need stretching, but they are actually too tight already due to the tight back. (so maybe be careful about stretching hamstrings if you have tight lower back issues)
After all the casual research, i think whats happened is my lower back has tightened up and pulled my pelvis up into an anterior pelvic tilt which rotates the femurs inwards causing my knee caps to run out of line slightly /runners knee and pulled my hamstrings tight. I feel like these piriformis stretches have opened my hips and improved things abit. I've even had the girlfriend walk up and down my lower back which frees me up shortly after...and she seems to enjoy me wincing.
I reckon its alot to do with sitting/driving for hours on end in the UK. Have you noticed how all these asians can do the ''asian squat'' no problem. Must be because they sit crossed legged on the floor so much when they grow up?
I'm thinking about buying a wooden mallet...
Still, i read somewhere that Vlad had his kneecap removed?, so i guess i shouldnt complain.

sounds like you have a BRILLIANT understanding of what is going on with your body.
How about your glutes? Are you sure they are switching on when they should?
The other thing to consider is not to free it up too much in one go, as the body will go into protection mode and clamp up tighter again. So maybe try a couple of sessions, with the first one falling short of the point you normally get to.

I'd given up with my glutes as i was doing those cook hip lift thingamybobs for what seemed like eternity. Exercise with no benefit...Zzzzz. I'll have another go with them after a massage. Last night had the strange sight of me hitting my back with a wooden food pestle whilst watching the fantastically bad Expendables 2.
I wondered if there was some super strength tiger balm sort of stuff to loosen it up abit?

well, there's tiger balm ultra(gold) or xtra (red). Would be interested to hear if there is anything else stronger.

I would say use a foam roller, but maybe a soft ball would work well too. Google myofascial release.
But a sore back could be anything from the knees up, so it's maybe better going and seeing a physio to see if they can work out where the problem lies.

Was that the guy who opened up "The Physio" shop on 334 or something like that? I used him once for a recurring slipped disc and he was great. Hope he's still around in case I need him whenever I'm in Phnom Penh.horace wrote:I know and use an excellent physio, he Danish and charges 30 dollars a session. Pm if you want his number

@JC, no not the same guy. The one you're thinking about is Dutch , I believe. This guy works from home on ST 63 (south) , there's no signage or anything, but he is a professional and knows his stuff. Again PM if you want his number.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Dr Christoph Savoure is a chiro/physio and owns ICC...he's cured me of a plethora of problems over the las 6 months. 44$ a session. on ST 240 between 63 and monivong. Well recommended.
