Coughs that won't go away
Coughs that won't go away
I'm in Seoul, and have been trying to get it together to move to SE Asia.
I've visited Thailand and Cambodia, and had a great time.
I've had an on-and-off again cold / cough that is persistant. The doctors say that a lot of foreigners have this for the first year in Seoul, due to pollution, new germs, etc. Some of them apparently have had to eventually move out of Seoul to move to cleaner cities. Others gradully built up an immune system after 1 to 2 years and didn't have any problems.
Here's the question: Has anyone experienced this in SE Asia? I've always felt better in warm environments, and generally had less health issues. How has this been for others? (I lived in LA, which is a fairly polluted city, and I never had these problems). As I mentioned before, whenever I've arrived in a hot, humid area my breathing problems subsided immediately, and my general health was better.
I'm considering Laos, as it is warm and less polluted than many countries, or maybe looking for jobs in less populsted areas of Cambodia or Vietnam.
Anyone that has had any health mojo simialr to mine, please post or PM me.
I know some of you posters have lived in Korea.
The good news: It looks like I'm outta my god forsaken work place in early June, with plans to arrive in SE Asia in early August.

Ive heard of the same thing in Malaysia.
I lived there for a year and had a cough for 6 months. I was told of the same reason, and another reason.
In Malaysia EVERYWHERE has aircon, cos its so hot. So when you get a cough, your bronchial system never gets a chance to dry out.. because of all the moisture rich air you are breathing from the the air con.
In malaysia I would go from an air conditioned 4 star hotel room, to an air conditioned chauffer driven car, to an air conditioned office, then to an air conditoned gym, and air con restaurant.. ad infinitum.... never a chance for warm air in the lungs...
I dont think the same is true for cambodia... I never use air con here..only a fan.... Even if I did use air con.. it isnt everywhere like Malaysia... youre not living in an air con bubble...
