Hate to do this but, well... Did a search here on visas and didn't see it. Anyways went to Consulate for Cambodia here in Saigon today and the guy there tells me the ONLY kind of visa I could get not actually being in Cambodia would be a $25 single entry tourist visa, and then I would only be able to extend it once I'm inside cambodia. Strange thing is one time he said I "could pay for a longer visa here in HCMC but would 'have to buy it in Cam.'" In otherwords he seems clueless.
Furthermore he said that while 1 month tourist is $25, he said 3 month extension is $120 and 1 year extension is $200 (all for business visa, that is).
Could anyone please clear this up as effort made on my part here was fruitless. Or fruity.
Visa to Cambodia, outside Cam?

Probably depends on the official you're dealing with - and yourself.
Two days ago I went to the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok to get a business visa. The guy asked me for 50% 'mark-up' and I raised an eyebrow, politely citing the correct price of $25. He responded with 'three working days' to which I raised my other eyebrow and he said, 'Okay, come back tomorrow'.
Yesterday ahead of me in the line was an American who'd requested and paid for a business visa. He recieved a tourist visa. When protesting he got the demand for a hefty surcharge and the three day crap. He paid the extra but wanted his visa immediately, upon which the guy tippexed out 'tourist' and scribbled in 'business'! I'd love to see that guy trying to extend his visa next month!
Then it was my turn - lovely shiny new business visa! Why? Was it my magic eyebrows? Did I ask nicely? Was it because I lied on the form and wrote under 'Occupation' that I had a job and the other guy wrote 'sex tourist' - or was it because he looked like a sex tourist?
So basically there's no system as such. you could ask to speak to a more senior person but be aware whoever you're dealing with may well be waiting for you to hand over your passports with a few crisp ones between the pages - as they will at the border. But it seems charm and lucky eyebrows can do the job.
